Manifestations of Death: Sample Builds

Bare Essentials

The two builds in this division will use only the material provided in the Assassin: Executioner article from D394 and in the two Essentials books, Heroes of the Fallen Lands and Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms, for those of you playing Essentials-only games. That's an unfortunate situation (no ki focuses, no Permafrost, no charge optimization, etc.), but we'll try to make the best of it.

Anything Goes

These builds use everything available to you in 4e. Obviously you'd look here if you want anything even remotely optimized for a full 4e game.

The Cold Charger Show

Charge optimization is the route to go if you want high DPR. And of all damage types to choose from, the Permafrost combo of Lasting Frost + Wintertouched + Frost weapon reigns supreme. This Half-Orc Red Scales Executioner combines the two, along with heavy focus on the rapier/dagger set, to make one cold-blooded mofo. In addition, he makes sure to take advantage of Shadow Master and Adept Power at Lv. 10 to get Knockout from his Rogue MC, which he'll use until he gets something even better at Lv. 29 in Kiss of Death. He boosts his Strength to master his light blade, as well as have enough Fortitude to strangle someone if he needs to.

The Icy Shooter Show

This League of Whispers Drow specializes in the hand crossbow, which members of his race wield with no peer. Like most Executioners looking to top out their DPR, he goes straight for the Permafrost combo as soon as he can get it. He also picks up some tricks from the Ranger, namely one of his giant nova powers.

For the ICY SHOOTER build, is there some reason at level 10 the CB wont let me select Shadow Master?

Without seeing your actual CB build, best guess is not MC'd Rogue. Shadow Master is a rogue utility.

The Icy Shooter build example is MC'd Ranger.

Sorry, it is the Icy shooter build above...he has level 10 Shadow Master...I have played a few rogues, and I knew it was a rogue feat.   Thats why I asked if there was something special Litigation did in the build to allow the feat.

No worries... I saw the Icy build with Warrior of the Wild as the level 1 feat and rambled from there Not enough sleep before trying to think...

I'm curious how he did it now as well... thinking it could be CB error or typo. The Cold Charger is MC Rogue w/ Shadow Master @ 10.

Yep, I am the same....too tired to think straight.  I like the ICY build for my Drow or Vryloka, so I just need to find another level 10 feat that may work to strengthen the build.

Shadow Master is the feat that lets Executioners pick as Assassin daily power in pace of one of their poison uses. It's from the D 400 Hybrid and Multiclass Options article. It's not a Rogue feat. Where are you all getting that crap from?
D&DN Paladin: Half-Fighter, half-Cleric, all useless.
D&DN Ranger: Third-Fighter, third-Rogue, third-Druid, all useless. With one interesting concept that has its execution botched.

Confusion due to WotC giving powers and feats the exact same name... and D400 hybrid info not being in the Compendium yet, so a search for Shadow Master will pull up the power and not the feat...

Of course, if I had been awake when I originally posted, I might have noticed I was looking at the feat section of Icy and not the power section.

I knew I took this weekend off for some reason... back to sleep I go.

Ok for my own edification, how do you select it within the Character Builder....I just cant find a way to select it....I apologize if it is fairly easy, but I am missing it.

So, where does the Executioner rank amongst strikers nowadays?

Meh, it is workable but lacks lots of multi-attacks, and it lacks encounter and daily powers that can be swapped out. Overall this means there are fewer options for optimizing DPR compared to a ranger or rogue.
