I like that, it captures the idea of covering fire very well.

Here is my take on autofire rules for Gamma World.
They look good to me, but I wonder if they are too good.
What does everyone think of them?

AUTOFIRE OR SPRAY ATTACK (Area)     adapted from         the Star Wars Saga Edition
You fill an area with a hail of gunfire.  Standard action.
♦ Requirement: You must use a ranged weapon that is capable of     attacking multiple targets at once.
A fully-automatic gun or a spray weapon can attack any area within     its range. A shotgun can attack at a range of 4 squares.
♦ Target: All creatures in a 2x2 square area.
♦ Attack: Make one basic attack roll with the weapon, at a -5     penalty, against the AC of every creature in the area.
Hit: Each creature you hit takes normal damage from the     attack.
Miss: Each creature you miss takes half normal damage     from the attack.
Special: If your net attack roll is less than 10,     or you roll a natural 1, you do not hit any targets and they take no     damage.
♦ Ammunition check: There is a 50% chance you immediately use up the     ammunition in the weapon. If you have spare ammo, you can reload as     a move action.

AUTOFIRE OR SPRAY ATTACK (Single Target)     adapted         from the Star Wars Saga Edition
You blast a target with a hail of gunfire.  Standard action.
♦ Requirement: You must use a ranged weapon that is capable of     attacking multiple targets at once.
A fully-automatic gun or a spray weapon can attack any target     within its range. A shotgun can attack at a range of 4 squares.
♦ Target: One creature
♦ Attack: Make one basic attack roll with the weapon against the     target.
Hit: The creature takes 2[W] damage from the attack,     plus all the usual modifiers.
Miss: The creature takes half normal damage from the     attack.
Special: If your net attack roll is less than 10,     or you roll a natural 1, you do not hit the target and it takes no     damage.
♦ Ammunition check: There is a 25% chance you immediately use up the     ammunition in the weapon. If you have spare ammo, you can reload as     a move action.

Personally, I would only use the first one. However, keep in mind that unless you are using a houserule for ammo, there is no such thing as "having spare ammo," so that last sentence about reloading is moot.

I just uploaded a new version of my adventure, Quest of the One-Armed Robot. The maps have been greatly improved (although to be honest, the swamp map could be better) and the file size is much smaller. You can download it from the same address as before: click here.

The new maps look really nice! Good work.
Although, the old hand drawn ones certainly had their charm...

Standard Action ♦ Area burst 1 within 10 squares
Target: All creatures in burst

You need an attack type (area) so you know whether or not it provokes opportunity actions (yes).

The other one should be:
Standard Action ♦ Ranged weapon
Target: one creature

Notably, neither one works with "shotguns," per se, but a separate attack that was Close blast 3 would.  Although at this point I'm practically just recreating Oraibi's burst/blast weapons.

Thanks for the input.

wrt having spare ammo, I am using a house rule, but in the original rules, it is still possible to get spare ammo during an encounter from a comrade or a fallen foe.

I kept the 2x2 area, because a an Area burst 1 would be 3x3, which I think is too big, and therefore a bit too good.
I shortened the range of the shotgun, but didn't make it 'Close' because I wanted to leave a bit of range for using a ranged weapon, and also allow opportunity attacks since it is still considered to be a ranged attack.

wrt Area vs Close attacks and opportunity attacks, the fact that it is a ranged attack tells you that it provokes opportunity attacks, so I don't think I need to change that.

Any more comments would be welcome.

I changed the rules just a bit:

I wasn't necessarily correcting the meaning of the words, as your intent it clear, I was just bringing the language in-line with the rules.  "Ranged" attacks are, by default, single target attacks, but unfortunately "Area blast" doesn't exist (much to my surprise, actually).  Note that in "Ranged weapon," "weapon" is the range, so you don't need to specify the range line.

I had to tweak the usual definitions a bit to make it work how I wanted, which is essentially how it worked in Star Wars Saga Edition.
On paper, I think it will work fine.  I'll get to try it out this weekend with my players.

Any more comments or suggestions are welcome.
