I'm surprised that only about 14% actually tried the character builder and decided to cancel from that.

Also, I think the poll is a bit off. It doesn't have an option for "I'll try it for another month and decide," that's lumped into the "continuing to subscribe" option. Also, it only polls the subset of D&D players who post on enworld, which probably skews towards hardcore players. So the actual numbers of dissatasfied customers to DDI might be higher.

This email is to confirm that we have stopped automatic billing for your subscription.  Your subscription will continue to be active until the expiration date listed below.

Quoted from my letter to WotC:

"Please cancel the Auto-Renew for my subscription.   I am unhappy with the clearly "Beta" Web-based Character Builder, and was purely subscribing to DDI for updates to the well-made, and no longer supported, Offline Character Builder. Thank you for the previous services that you have provided in the past. I am sorry that our relationship has needed be terminated in this fashion.

Addendum: I have sent this twice, and clicked the "Deactivate Auto-Renew" button on the Order history, page, but am in doubt as to whether the message has been received, considering the poor quality of the DDI "Account Tools" pages."

Well I cancelled my auto renew I have teh old CB and all the patch files once my sub runs out unless something is done with the new CB that is truely amazing I will treat WoTC just like I did the USPS and not give them another cent.

Im not a believer in supporting companys who shot themsleves in the feet.
And as I am currently running a super heros game and a space based game in a far off mellenium I wont miss it.

There's currently 42,773 ddi subscribers. Lets see if the number really moves that much over the next couple of months.

It's gone up about 200 since they announced the web-based builder (Mac users?), and 100 or so of that since the 16th. That is only those that also have a forum account. So the actual number is higher. I wonder how many have logged for a month to get the last chance to get the offline builder legally? I also wonder how many of those are like me where they have cancelled their auto-renew, and won't actually disappear for a good few months yet.

Mine expires in May, but I will probably ask for a refund in the next couple of months if nothing has improved.

I think that some of the rise is people logging into the community site for the first time just to complain.  There were a lot of <10 post posters.

But still, my guess is that in 3 months there will still be 42000 users.  Maybe more, if some parents think a years sub would be a nice christmas gift.

The two important figures in that poll are (at time of posting):

I have an account and will continue to subscribe. 44.58%

Which I think doesn't include people that have cancelled their auto renew, since they don't intend to continue to subscribe.

And

I was not subscribed, but will be starting a subscription or have started one recently. 1.25%
I was occasionally subscribing to update my CB and will be getting a full subscription now. (barely worth mentioning with 1 respondent) 0.42%

So of people that have tried it...

They have kept 44.58% with the recent changes. They have gained 1.67% with the recent changes and they have lost 43.75% of all the people that have ever tried the D&DI (some due to recent changes, some for other reasons), some of which will probably only show up when the current subscription expires. 10% of people couldn't care less about the D&DI by the looks of things.

Was the move against piracy (which is all this really was), worth losing nearly half your current subscribers? Only time will tell.

I hadn't even considered existing users creating community accounts to complain that would certainly explain the sudden rise since it wasn't publicised particularly well.

I just cancelled my subscription because of the joke of the new CB.

if they get the old CB back and update it monthly as it was I will go back
to subscribe but untill then I will not buy a thing from them.

will be intresting to see on how long I still have the DDi symbol
