I'm curious... has anyone ever dropped a bowl of jello? I think it'd "prone" just fine, actually.
It's not jello, it's gelatin. You ever put too much gelatin in jello? Gelatin is so tough that you can't break it even if you chew it. Your teeth just sort of bounce off. Gelatin wouldn't splat like jello would.

it's jello

Actually... Jell-O is made up of gelatin, sugar, and flavoring.
Max's conceit that gelatinous cubes are high viscosity mixtures of gelatin are unspecified and unsupported by ANY official text. Also, since he is arguing a world that must make sense, then how much sense does a critter made entirely of boiled collagen make?
Jackonomicon™ It's not always safe for work, but it's great for play. It's my blog, yo.

How on earth does something so tough you can't even break it with your teeth manage to engulf anything? Your gelatinous cube makes even less sense then mine...

a) i know what jello is made up of. jello itself is more akin to a particular mixture then anything else and
b) we had goalposts? more importantly, there was a scoring system?!

Oh yes. We did have goalposts. Somewhere over there. With a net behind them. Now they're somewhere in that direction...

it's not called a jelloatinous cube.
But gelatinous doesn't necessarily mean "made of gelatin".
–adjective 1. having the nature of or resembling jelly, esp. in consistency; jellylike. 2. pertaining to, containing, or consisting of gelatin. This definition is from dictionary.com, but Merriam-Webster also defines gelatinous as "resembling gelatin or jelly". Only the four unbolded words apply to things made of gelatin. The cube is more "having the nature of or resembling jelly" and "jellylike". Heck, that's not even gelatin-like! Jelly is quite gooey, and easily flounced into a squashed (ie prone) position. (By the way, one of the meanings of " prone" is "lying flat", which seems quite feasible for a jelly-like creature, so I see no reason why a gelatinous cube could not be rendered prone.)

so how do you knock a snake prone? since it is already "laying flat"
has anyone given any thought to the very fact that you have to "refluff" it, it does not make sense? Not saying making sense is good or bad...after all weapons do not go dull, amour is not damaged after combat and and someone where plate armour can swim.
