So they removed what they had already done.  Nice - probably the same meeting that had the delete the RPGA content.

Anyways - the more I find out and read, the less I believe the reasons they stated.

Indeed after closer examination the new CB is nothing but the old with a Silverlight interface.

So, basically, all the yadda yadda about essentials being difficult to integrate into the old one is a half-truth. Maybe it was difficult, but at the end, they did it. And I doubt the old interface was the biggest problem...

So they just hid the calculations to make it more difficult to track down the errors and hacks (like +4 -2 bonus/penalty for wearing a shield) and hide the fact that this thing is nothing but a new interface for the old thing.

The only problem is, that the interface of the old CB was by far the better part. So they kept the crap, and reinvented what was basically not bad at all.

It was obvious that the reason for doing this was an attempt to make pirating their stuff more difficult. I can understand that, but I doubt that what they did would help them or anybody.

Btw I like the new interface - IMO it is much more intuitive than the old one. But it is sad that the new thing lacks so much functionality the old one had.

If they enable the export feature with a few mouse clicks I'll re-sub EVENTUALLYT, but all this nonsense about missing features they chose to remove is just such BS. I don't like being lied to, or treated like a fool.

The export feature being there the whole time is definitely a Wizard of Oz moment for me.

If you ask any of the programmers here they will tell you that the export feature is not there.  There is a workaround that allows you a way to do the same thing, but WotC isn't going to announce a "back door" to the general public and say "gee whiz guys...turns out we had an export function after all and here's what you have to do....".  I'll bet they haven't written a way to stream that data to a file on your hard drive because they are possibly deciding if they perhaps want to encode that data stream to and from the server or what sort of implementation they want to do.  Realistically I'll bet any of their programmers could have written some code in under an hour that writes that data stream locally and added the GUI element to make it happen. That hasn't happened because they're deciding if they want to change the data stream before they decide how to write it out.  The streaming data has been a big part of the lag for many people and I suspect they need to address that before the work out the file export stuff.

Now you are just speculating... Unless your one of the developers undercover? I agree they could have done it in a very short time, which is probably why they shot it to the top of their "to do: Urgent!" list that is gathering dust.

Look here to Check out my adventures and ideas. I've started a blog, about video games, table top role playing games, programming, and many other things its called Kel and Lok Games. I'm looking for players for a 4E fantasy grounds game.Swallowed Lich's Implement, help please.

Well you're right that I'm speculating about the why....only WotC really knows.  But ultimately whatever format they decide to go with for the save file (watch - they'll encode it in binary...) they'll be stuck with so I'm sure that decision is part of the delay...and possibly only rolling out one update a month.

So I did a bit of investigating.  The PowerStats node is missing.  Yeah, it'll show up if you import it into the old CB first, and re-save it, but i'm not sure how that'd work with powers the old CB doesn't recognize.

I know the PowerStats node doesn't really get loaded when CB reads the file, but it does make the XML file more useful for external applications, such as DnD4ECM.  I hope that the actual export feature returns these blocks.
