No, you didn't out-and-out use the word liar. You weaseled your way around that by implying that he might have been misleading people. So much less offensive that flat out accusing him of lying.
Anyone can quote old posts back and cast the poster in a negative light. No doubt a few minutes of searching would enable you or anyone else so inclined to make me look foolish, or deceptive, or whatever.
It's not in any way useful, it adds nothing to the conversation, and it would be great if everyone would just stop it.
I was unable to prove that anything was unintentional, so I couldn't exclude it as a possibility. I certainly don't think he was lying. In fact, even earlier than the post you quoted I said this:
As a preempitive attempt to hold off this particular fight: note that I did not accuse anyone of lying. One of the statements is untrue, but I am not implying that the untruth was told intentionally.

If your software needs a major patch on day 1 to make it work for most of your customers, you did a poor job.
Well there should have been a Beta, sure.
However, few companies can afford the amount of QA required to avoid such things.
I couldn't build a straight up rogue. I call that almost no QA.
And fair enough QA is hard, and it's costly. Don't bill your user base to QA it for you. Release it beta and ask for feedback. When it's solid, then start charging. Everyone of you guys should be refunded a portion of your monthly fee until it's out of beta.

Well that's a sound argument. I haven't asked for a refund, and I probably won't but that's because I count my DDI subscription at the moment as charity for D&D (had too much fun playing the game and found too many good friends playing it, so maybe I can give back a little )

I have given back. I have bought every book they ever published.
I think we should be paid for testing their software. A couple months free DDi should suffice.

This would certainly make sense. If not free, at least a discount. I've done beta testing for a couple of games before, and they were kind enough to reward me in some way for my time (in the case of Time Warp of Dr Brain, I got a free copy of the finished game).

In the days when gamers ran the company I would agree with you. But these days it's corp types and beancouters making the decisions, screw them. If they want my money earn it, it they want my charity care about the game as much as I do.

I loved Dr Brain games back in the day. I wish they would re-release them with new puzzles.

Do you the majority of you really think that this, would, or should be perfect out of the box? ...
Certainly not.
However, I do expect it to NOT be a downgrade. It is missing both data and functionality that was present in the classic CB. That's unacceptable.

I think that if Wotc can fix or upgrade the new builder in a reasonable amount of time, so be it.
Trevor is being responsive to you complaints, but that is part of his job.
I would understand and sympathize with your issues if there is no effort made to address the situation. But really, settle down. You guys all need to go build some hybrid epic munchkin charcter equipped with an array of purchased magic items that breaks the game and generates a slew of errata. And do it by hand, that way you don't have to complain about the builder.

The problem is that the *wrong* effort is being made. We don't want to watch WotC play whack-a-mole with bugs and server issues. We want to be able to use the content that we've been promised for 2 months. We want the old, fully-functional character builder to be updated until such time as the web app is actually ready for release. Killing support for a working tool and telling us "hold tight we're working on the bugs" is weak. Easy solution - update the tool that works, then while we're distracted by new content work on developing your new thing.
The problem as a customer is that new tool was not designed to bring any added benefit to us. The added benefit is 100% on WotC's side (despite any spin to the contrary, e.g. "no need to store your character on your own hard drive, you can use our extremely limited cloud space"). So if we're being told to suck it and deal with their new method of piracy control, then at least give us something that works. If you can't give us something that works, then hold off until it DOES work. Bleh.
