I want to compile a list of music that is either apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic (no dystopias, please) to help set the mood at the beginning of Gamma World games.  Here's what I have so far.  (Clearly, I am a child of the '80s)

Apocalyptic
  1. "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)" by R.E.M.
  2. "How Far We've Come" by Matchbox 20
  3. "Bad Moon Rising" by Credence Clearwater Revival
  4. "We Will All Go Together When We Go" by Tom Lehrer
  5. "Sinner Man, Where You Gonna Run To", traditional gospel
  6. "The Final Countdown" by Europe
  7. "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones
  8. "London Calling" by the Clash
  9. "Eve of Destruction" by the Turtles
  10. "99 Luftballoons" by Nena
  11. "Christmas at Ground Zero" by "Wierd Al" Yankovic
  12. "1999" by Prince
  13. "We Will Become Silhouettes" by Postal Service
  14. "(I'll Love You) Till The End Of The World" By Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
  15. "The Man Comes Around" by Johnny Cash

Post-Apocalyptic
  1. "(Nothing But) Flowers" by Talking Heads
  2. "I Remember California" by R.E.M.
  3. "Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)" by Billy Joel
  4. "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan
  5. "Everything is Broken" by Bob Dylan
  6. "Badlands" by Bruce Springsteen
  7. "Wooden Ships" by Crosby, Stills & Nash
  8. The albums "2112" and "Grace Under Pressure" by RUSH

I would suggest RUSH "2112" (heck, both sides really) and "Grace Under Pressure".
But my all-time G-World favorite inspiration needs to be the Tom Petty video for "You Got Lucky"

Good call on RUSH.  The Tom Petty video is certainly post-apocalyptic, but the lyrics aren't.

The last 3 albums from Abney Park
(Lost Horizons, Aether Shanties, End of Days)

They blend in a lot of world styles and obscure instruments which fits the melded worldlines concept, and a lot of the songs are basically telling the story of a steampunk airship moving through a post apocalypse setting.  The downside is it may inspire people to get that Keelboat from the starting gear list kitted out for piracy... Or that may be an upside depending on your perspective.

Movie soundtracks are amazing. Terminator II (my personal favorite), the Matrix, Fast & Furious... anything to get the table adrenaline up.

"Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult (always reminds me of "The Stand")

I use a lot of Aphex Twin. It's a great, dirty sound.

the album: Warp Riders by The Sword

here is a track  (incidentally, I think that tune could be a cool launch point for a D&D or Gamma World campaign)
