Just wanted to thank everyone for their feedback and input. Hopefully it made a positive contribution to DDI interaction with 3rd party developers.
Best Regards, Fred

Hey guys, you may want to hit up the podcast, particularly around 24:22 where the lead of the digital products team comes on and explains the whole reason for the shift to an online CB.
I love how they seem to think I want this app on my mobile phone..... So to get my character builder I need to get a new phone, a new data package plan, and then if I get reception I can use the CB. Who the hell does their research?
Things like "what we've chosen works on technology as sustainable in our building and that's where we started" does not inspire confidence in their abilities or product. Comments like "there are a lot of reasons why the character builder wasn't working for us" just shows that this change was not done for customers but for WotC alone.
I like it how he sounds surprised at the amount of piracy on the internet there is, it sounds like he was just exposed to the internet.
I feel sad for WotC there is no need to be this greedy over a game. So many nice people willing to program for free or donation and so much unwillingness by this company to let it happen. Greedy greedy greedy.
This is becoming less like a game and more like my workplace.
I would like to follow any 3rd party development of a charcter building tool so please let the community (me) know if anyone starts developing something, there is no way this incarnation of the CB will work for me or my group.

Guess I chose the wrong time to become a DnD insider again. I had taken a few months off from my subscription and from playing DnD. Now I come back and I can't upload my new character to iplay4e because it can't be exported. Please add this functionality as soon as you can. Silverlight is a bloated PoS and I don't like using it just to see my character and/or destroying a tree to print it out.

+1 DM that uses Masterplan and my players main reason to get a ddi account was the Char Builder. I´ve seen that exporting data is in the ODO list, please make it first priority =)
Thanks

I am a paying supporter of IPlay4e.com and DDI. Please add export so I can continue to use the tools I like...

here download this if you want a copy of the online cb on your hard drive. media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/Characte...as a side note i was able to get the excaped slave theme to load just fine with all it fluff and crunch in the old cb, so add to the list of lies that the old cb couldent support themes it not olny supports them but has the data for them loaded as of the last update. o and u can use the old cb sheats now to =) just copy the info in the debug tab and make a new dnd4 file and load that with the old cb. use this for the debug tab vecna.wizards.com/

+1 to this effort. I use iPlay4e to manage characters on both online games and at my regular tabletop game. While I use real dice for the latter, I still keep track of conditions, stats and vitals using iPlay4e.com. It helps me make sense of all of the numbers flying around and the work done by the people behind this site says a lot about the passion they have for the product line and their willingness to work within and respect for the requirements set forth by WotC for what would be considered fair use by paying subscribers to their (WotC's) services.

+ 1 DM who uses Masterplan. External access or export functionality is needed badly.

I honestly desperatly want the offline app restored to functionality and this online version can go to hell. Not only have we NOT gotten most of the features promised to us when D&DI first was announced, now we're actually losing functionality (houseruling, to my knowledge, is impossible in the web app). Plus, it crashes a hell of a lot more. It seems to me the ONLY benefit of this builder is that I can have the most current version of all the characters uploaded so that I don't have 4 versions of a character lying around.... but there's also a bullshit limit on characters, so when you just go making characters for fun, you quickly discover you better delete hte ones you don't play.
The real benefit seems to be that D&DI subscribers who would subscribe for a month, get hte update, and then shut off their subscription for a few more months, then turn it back on, now have no access to the builder.
TvTropes.org - Any trope I reference is likely found here.
