The update process generally starts at about 9AM Pacific time and takes about 2-3 hours, after which the update server is once again available.
So, is that confirmation than an update will, in fact, occur today?

To the best of my knowledge, it is still scheduled for today. (Keep in mind that I do not work at WotC, and am 3 time-zones to the east of them.)

Thank you. That is sufficient for me. I will check back later this afternoon.

This is pretty freaking pathetic. We don't get an update till october thinking we're gonna get double the amount since it was postponed, and then we get bare bones stuff, PP, and not even DARK SUN for pete's sake.
Seriously WOTC, get your **** together.
Thanks to this cokey garbage I'm considering not resubbing.
Pretty much this.
Oh, and *Checks Calendar* Hey it's October 12th today! *Checks Character Builder for Updates* Ummmmmm... WTF WOTC? Where's my update you promised TODAY?!
Due the chance that an update will cause massive destruction of the database/servers of wizards they only do the updates when there are tech's physicall present. This in turn means around 9am pacific time it starts, and usually takes a few hours to load and be ready for download. Generally speaking in Mountain time I get the update by noon. People on the east coast get it at 2ish.

The argument goes, that some idiot at the table might claim that because there is a "default" that is the only true way to play D&D. An idiotic misconception that should be quite easy to disprove just by reading the rules, coming to these forums, or sending a quick note off to Customer Support and sharing the inevitable response with the group. BTW, I'm not just talking about Next when I say this. Of course, D&D has always been this way since at least the late 70's when I began playing.

Eugh. To quote my crazy bible-quoting Pentecostal grandmother, "Twitter is the Mark Of The BEEEEAAASSSTTTT!!!!!!"
(No offense intended to any other Pentecostal readers out there, seriously. Her particular congregation is [to say the least] WAAAAYYY out there. They're about as "normal" an example as the Westboro Baptist gang is of Baptist churches. As in, "not an accurate representation.")
Those who keep quoting the EULA at our complaints should live in shame for their reprehensible behavior, as should WotC. Nicolae Ceauşescu never committed acts as reprehensible as the last few weeks here.

There is no for-sure confirmation until the update actually completes and you're playing with the new stuff, but generally "server unavailable" means that it's on the way.
