Is it possible to run a sexy D&D game?

Sure, I'm sure all the players out there have had busty barmaidens and the occasional devilishly alluring female sorceress tempt your characters. There are even several monsters in the Monster Manuals and Creature Catalogs designed specifically to lure lonely or horny adventurers in with their potent masculine or feminine wiles.

But occasional dalliances or temptations aside, has there ever been a D&D adventure that's purpose was to titilate and arrouse as much as excite and engage?

I've come across several homebrew rule-sets online that accomadate for sex and sexy encounters/monsters, but the majority of them tend to get bogged down in rules and minutia, proving to be less than exciting when actually played with.

Does the whole process of the D&D experience (stats, dice rolls, damage, powers, etc) prove uncompatiable with a genuinely sexy experience?

I've been running a sexy/fetish-themed adventure online using 4th Ed rules online, and the answers are 'yes and no'.

The adventure is drawing to a close, and the predominantly male-centric player group (six PCs, five of them men, one of them a woman, playing with a female DM) and everyone has told me the adventure has been both fun to play as Dungeons and Dragons, but feels distictively sexy and hot.

The scenario and adventure itself is not much more than cheesecake NPCs and an erotic dungeon delve filled with monsters more concerned with sex than slaying, but so far the number one rule has been 'Fun first, rules second', which seems to be imperitive to running this kind of game.

I may post the finished adventure online (with its added rules for sexy combat, in which Pleasure Points replace Hit Points ^^) when it's completed, but first I'd like some feedback from the community.

Has anyone online here ever run or played a sex-themed D&D game before?

Until then, here's to putting the 'dungeon' back in Dungeons and Dragons *grins*

Step one is to confirm that everyone else who will be involved (read: both players and the DM) are okay with the concept, and / or are interested in it.

Other than that, it's going to vary immensely based on the varying personalities involved. But if your group's not on board with it in the first place, you're going to get nowhere fast.
If you look past the plot and the voice acting, Metroid: Other M was an okay game. Not a great game, but an adequate one.

Not using the Metroid item collect jingle though? That, was a mistake.

Running the risk of the Mods. . .

Role playing, outside the perview of attack rolls and skill challenges is where the kind of 'sexy' gaming resides.  D&D along with nearly every other RPG is built around overcoming challenges with violence, diplomacy, or trickery.  Things that only rarely include seduction or 'other' acts that are 18+ only content.

Have I role-played in such environments?  You know, there was a time when the vastness of telnet and the MU*'s housed there-in were stuffed with all kinds of role-playing.

Emotional content is tricky with D&D. Whether you're going for erotic, or for horror/high drama/romance, 40% of your communication will be rules and another 30% will by Monty Python jokes.

I love my D&D, and you can have moments of all kinds of high emotion, but if you want an entire session of erotic D&D you definitely have you work cut out for you.

As long as the group is ok with it, go for it. Some resources that might help you are the AD&D Guide to Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (Netbook of Sex, free download, it's for 2e but you can probably find it somewhere) and the Book of Erotic Fantasy (3e 3pp supplement). You'll have to do some work on converting the material but it should give you some ideas. There's suggestions for erotic skill uses, spells, classes, and some general campaign/adventure ideas.

The only official adventure which I remember *could* be used in that way, was "Sex, Drugs & Demon Lords" published in Dungeon #95.
cover_180.jpgThe scope of the adventure is to infiltrate in a drug dealer gang based in a brothel, and so on.
It is not totally erotic/sexy per se but it gives a lot of opportunity in adult themes roleplaying.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

As for the entire group being on board, my intentions were never to 'spring' this kind of campaign theme/setting on everyone. When I advertised online that I'd be hosting an 'erotic fantasy' adventure for D&D, it was the primary selling point.

I've come across some interesting results so far, as the party is three sessions into what's looking to be a five session adventure (about 4 encounters or so). Some of them revealing about the player's sexual tastes, others about the nature of roleplaying D&D in general. All of them fun and curious:

1. I have  male players. All of them play female characters.

Without any prompting, all of my players have opted for female characters. While this doesn't surprise me, as most online friends I know who dabble in cyber and sexual RPs tend to play as women, it does surprise me from D&D players.

I've hosted a number of Encounters sessions and Living Forgotten Realms games in game shops, and every man or boy playing has almost always shown resistance to playing a female character, to the point of bickering over who gets 'forced' to play the female pregen characters. Why the change when playing an erotic themed game? Is it the audience its made for? Or just that it's taking place online?

My guess is that none of the players want an 'all tough guy' party when it's time for naked dalliances with each other. A pity... *grins*

2. The party has been defeated, and the players couldn't be happier.

I've played with a lot of 'high-rollers'. Players who will min-max a character to the point of never being able to fail. I generally hate it, because I like characters to be fallible. Even mighty heroes should screw up from time to time.

But here, I have players purposefully botching rolls. A succession of 2s, 3s, and critical misses.

This is, of course, because they were entangled by the sentient, tentacled plant of the deep pits, intent on making them endure a torture so explicit it would make even a Cleric of Bahamut blush.

For once, it was a surprise to see players drawing out a combat encounter, almost to the point of utter defeat, just to squeeze out a few more moments of saucy roleplay. The encounter played out not unlike a sleazy hentai DVD, but was still fun and engaging, while making us all a little hot under the collar.

The players seemed happiest when they were at the cusp of defeat, with a few even hoping to be vanquished by the monster (if only to continue knocking boots with tentacles). It makes a DM reconsider the options of what makes for a successful end to an adventure. Sometimes when you lose, you still win.

3. It could only be done online

The kind of adventure I've crafted was made specifically for being played online using an instant messenger. Each of us retained a certain amount of anonymity, and felt free to be as cheesy, vulgar, outrageous, exotic, and vulnerable as we wanted.

I couldn't imagien the same adventure happening around a real world table.

Still, it's not impossible.

Erotic roleplaying in the bedroom is no foreign concept to a vast amount of couples and groups of people. My question is, could it be done with a few dice rolls as well. With the right group of people (and it would have to be a small group), this kind of titillating game could take place.

Sure, it may (and mostly likely will) devolve into dirty jokes, puns, and an all around raunchy experience, but it'll be a memorable experience to be sure.

And for couples interested in a one-on-one experience, it may be perfect.

What say you?

book of erotic fantasy. its at one of my local game shops here, maybe it'll be in your local store.  Everyone talks about it but never buys it.  It's one of those "things" nobody wants to touch in their games.  and yes, most everyone who plays D&D here is above the age of 20 or so.

Also, it's not really something that every player would be compfortable with.  Ask first I guess, unless you get players running off and explaining in great detail what happens.  Like the game run at my local shop where the PCs ran into sex dongeon and found a bottle of black ooze ( the killer tentacle spell, cant remember the name).  Ya, that spell was "customized" for that specific room.

Glad i didn't play that game.  Though I heard the Gnome player quit.

Thanks for pointing the 'Book of Erotic Fantasy' out to me, all of you.

It's quite a pretty penny online, and hard to find in shops, but it may be invaluable for later on. I'm interested to see what it adds to the mechanics of sex and sex-themed play. From reading a few reviews, the added rules seem a bit much, but the descriptions may be invaluable.

I'm compiling a fair amount of homebrew rules I may put together into an adventure package in the near future to share. With everything updated for 4e.

I might buy this book this week, we'll have to see.

Not to advocate piracy, but since it's not a WotC product...

You can get this book in a torrent file.
