I guess Elemental as a power source is dead since Pyromancers use the arcane power source.

I honestly cannot tell whether you are being sarcastic here. I'm going to guess 'yes', though.

For what it's worth, the Rules Compendium describes the power sources as being Arcane, Divine, Martial, Primal, Psionic and Shadow. No mention of Elemental in there, but Shadow is still existant so there is chance we'll see proper classes just for the source.

I really hope not, but WotC hasn't mentioned the Elemental Source for awile now.
However, there is a Dragonborn Elementalist in the new minis set.
Elementalist was/is supposed to be a Class of the Elemental Power Source.
So maybe the Source isn't dead yet. Besides,  nobody has said it has been killed.
When they killed Ki we knew about it pretty quick.
Confirmation one way or the other would be nice though.

Pyromancer being a wizard build tells us absolutely nothing about the elemental power source. But you're intelligent enough to realise that. So I assume you were being sarcastic.

Yup, but a fire wielding class was the perfect way to introduce the Elemental power source, like the assassin introduced the shadow power source.

For we all know it's dead. While they haven't mentioned anything about it, nor have they mentioned any concrete information about it's current health; I would be on the side that it's pretty much considered dead. If Shadow has literally one classes to it's source, and half of that class is martial now... what hope have we of the Elemental Source, where it has no coherent archetype that can't already fit into another source?

If Heroes of Shadow doesn't actually have any "real" shadow classes; what does mean for other sources? The Elemental Source is already shaky at best, and might be killed off the same way (and probably is) Ki was; couldn't find a cohesive or coherent source theme, and was then killed off.

Wanting separate classes instead of new builds doesn't seem logical to me.  A new build such as what we've seen in Essentials offers almost all of the new toys of a totally new class, but with WAY more synergy with existing product support (powers, feats, paragon paths, etc).

There is an overabundance of base classes as it is.  Runepriest?  Really?  There's no reason that class isn't a build for a Cleric.

I humbly submit that new shadow builds and toys to make all new kinds of characters can be very awesome without having to invent classes from scratch.
