Goals of the Build: To make an Assassin that doesn't suck. Sadly, WoTC doesn't believe in this concept. "The class now gets hidden stab at 7th level, which is an evolution of hidden spear from an early iteration of the class. Hidden spear’s ability to make the target helpless was clearly overpowered."
Apparently the ability to do the same type of damage as a ranger on a more limited basis is overpowered.

This came together pretty well. I didn't get to see the final version until it was posted here, so seeing this was interesting.
Format is still strange to me. Haven't gotten used to the level-by-level progression of the Essentials stuff yet.
I love that the defenses hold up so well. L+16 AC, and the NADs are very strong.
I think Battle Awareness + Shock Trooper was definitely a good call over something divine + RRoT.
I think we'll be seeing similar CDG builds popping up over the course of the next couple weeks.

Yeah, the format sort of sucks, and of course it won't be CB viewable till at least October, and probably not really till November, so I imagine that will keep a lot of people from really commenting and whatnot.
Still, you are looking at a functional AC of 34 for most of the fights, with Fort and Ref of 31, so unlike your Daddy's Assassin, this guy is sturdy, not to mention hard to target as he is usually hidden, invisible, or using your buddies for cover, and has 8 surges.

I absolutely agree that it's fully playable. I think it will wind up getting a few more comments over the next few days. There has been a lot of interest in Executioners, and this one models something that should be a common element in Exe builds in the days ahead. Lack of views/replies to this point likely stems from the newness of your name to non-##4eCO people, and the time of day at which it was posted. Those will both change before very long

what about multi class rogue..
wield wraithblade rapier & spiked shield of rhythm.
versatile expertise (light blade & ki focus)
Alternate between "wielding" ki focus (javalin) & spiked shield (light blade).. then for cdg round .. rapier (light blade) & ki focus (spiked shield).
This gives you the benifit of higher defences during the round when you need to prevent the target from escaping, and the sneak attack with free shift on the cdg round.
Add these items: Executioner's Bracers, Ring of Giants, Wraithblade rapier
Background: Gritty Seargent (for rapier proficiency and +1 init)
You loose half you weapon damage.. but gain sneak attack with every crit. (18 or 24 with backstabber)
Switch your paragon path to death dealer, gives you an at will -2 enemy attacks (for those that can see you). This also adds +2 per damage die when you action point.

The wraithblade rapier is not a bad idea, and might make for a fine variant.
We're super hard up on feats, though, so taking a feat for the spiked shield doesnt seem like a great deal, and we already kill standards with our MBA, so the benefit isn't great.
Shocking Twister does a spectacular amount of damage, enough to CDG Solos, and the build above is not even using its Assassin's Strike to kill every other round.
So, I guess what I am saying is, I think its a viable idea, but unnecessary, and would make a good flavor to taste.

Without proficiency in spiked shield you loose the ability to ki focus (spiked shield).. thus you would loose the free shift after killing your target with the cdg. thats it.. nothing more.
switching to rapier instead of axe would drop feat (since you could get proficiency with your background). This also means you wont take the high crit with axes feat.. so you have 2 feats free there.
switching to rogue from fighter multiclass frees up the stout shield feat.. this could be spiked shield.. or something else.. prefereably something that bumps fort defense.. since this change lowers your fort by one point.
When they get the hybrid rules worked out (1st Quarter of next year,,, a long time from now).. you could hybrid assassin|rogue and multiclass fighter, to keep the stout shield.. (which is +2 now with rhythm blade enchant).

Or.. use a kukri.. pouncing armor + badge of the beserker + sash of ensnarement = Jump strait up and charge for the cdg with your kukri 2W attack.

You would gain a feat going from axe to rapier, but you'd lose 9 hp switching backgrounds from Born under a Bad Sign, which isn't all bad, but is a downside.
If one did flip to Rapier, you'd want to take Superior Fort for that extra +1 to Fort, and resistance 6 Ongoing damage.
Actually, Blade and Buckler duelist is even better. Doing a variant now with Blade and Buckler Duelist.
