Because I was curious, I did some research to find out just was being announced. Here's what I've found that's been announced for 2011: critical-hits.com/2010/08/07/gen-con-201...www.wizards.com/dnd/article.aspx?x=dnd/4...I'm really curious to see where Spelljammer is announced, and not just in rumor. Anyway, I'd love to see how the 4e cosmology applies to space travel. Do worlds like Toril still exist in crystal spheres, or do you reach the Astral Sea upon traveling above the atmosphere? It's not really clear for the base cosmology, but Page 8 of the Eberron Campaign Guide says, "Finally, beyond even the stars, lie the farthest reaches of the Dragon Above: the endless expans of the Astral Sea (see page 261)." That to me suggests that crystal spheres exist in 4e.

I was the one who started the thread he mentioned.
I'm currently on detachment with my squadron, and the nearby town has a gamign store. The place is a "priority distributor" or whatever they call it, and has been one for WotC since before WotC aquired DnD. The proprietor, wioth whom I was discussing upcoming products (like Essentials, Ravenloft, etc) mentioned that Spelljammer was in the works for 2011. I went back again later and asked how sure he was. His response was "I got an email from (dev name withheld to protect this guy), and he said one of the settings in the pipeline is Spelljammer."
I recognized the name of the developer, and most of you would, too. He's someone who's been involved in D&D (and Dragon magazine) for years. If i name names, someone at WotC might get in trouble, as well as my guy at the gaming store.
I understand this is just a rumor, and is far removed from many of you. But for me, personally, the information is 1 degree removed from the source (developers at wotc).

Not to be disrespectful, but for me personally, I'll believe it when the product is announced. It sure would be nice if they revived the setting thoug.

I share this same sentiment.
As for what I'd like to see in Spelljammer: Ship-to-ship combat rules. Swahsbuckling rules (if for no other reason than to compare to the fencing defenses in my sig). Firearms (I'm hoping Ravenloft has them, but I definitely want them in Speljammer if Raveloft doesn't have them). Tinker Gnomes, Xixchil, Scro (or half-scro), Illitihid, and Giff as playable races.
Accessories I'd like to see for Spelljammer: Dungeon tiles for the deck and interior layout of spelljamming vessels.

so why even play a fighter if you can play the paladin the exact same way behaviorally and get added power to boot. "Paladin" is about accepting better game-enhancing mechanics at the price of more rigid in game behavior.
Really? So it goes something like this?
Fighter: "I want to be a paladin." NPC: "Really?" Fighter: "Yes." NPC: "Very well." Starts reading from a holy book while still in-character "Do you accept having to choose and stick to the lawful good alignment, eventhough neither of us actually knows that it exists or what it is?" Fighter: "I do." NPC: "Do you reject good game balance because you accidentally rolled a high Charisma?" Fighter: "What?" NPC: "I don't know what it means either." Fighter: "Oh. Umm, ok I do." NPC: "In the name of all that is metagamey and broken, accept these better game enhancing mechanics." Fighter: "These what?" NPC: "Just get out there and try to fulfill a million different people's notion of good while not violating and part of any of them."

So the system is designed such that every single hit needs to be described to avoid confusion? Here's a scenario. The players are nudists, everybody in the world are nudists, it's not weird, it's totally normal in this land. They are naked and they fight drakes taking damage throughout, but healing up with surges. Later they meet the guy who raised the drakes.
Part 1: I didn't describe any of the hits. What does he see?
Part 2: Lets say I described the drakes as biting the players, yet they healed up. What does he see?
Fencing & Swashbuckling as Armor.
D20 Modern Toon PC Race.
Mecha Pilot's Skill Challenge Emporium.

Okay, spoke to my guy at the gaming store again, and he said it was cool to name names, as he wouldn't be in trouble, there was nothing hush-hush about it. The designer he mentioned, he at first said Skip Williams, but thought about it, and said, it may not have been Skip (although he does sometimes recieve info from Skip).
The email said "Spelljammer is in the pipeline for end of 2011", so that means either 4th quarter, or maybe pushed back to 2012.
