Lanternworld is a new campaign setting that a lot of dms on this site use, where there are no magic items, but if there were you could not make them or buy them, save for one small store in the abyss that may or may not have basic +1 armor. instead of fun items and magic, the stores have huge stocks of basic lanterns, as well as bags of grain
...c'mon..I'm more generous than that. Just because you made the trip, I may or may not be willing to give you an everburning torch and maybe even a vial of holy water, but only if you ask Orcus "Please, pretty please with sugar on top" and promise to sacrifice one of the party members for it...your choice , though!

And following the alternative rewards advice given in the DMG2 or even house ruling makes you pompous? Seems to be your line of thinking. Or is it you are just enraged by people having different fun to you? because that sure seems to be the case. Every post I have seen you make is rabidly "anti-anything different to how you like to play" (i.e. Essentials and low magic campaigns) It is kind of sad. D&D has always been about playing it your way. If you like huge amounts of magic items, more power to you, go have fun. Doesn't mean everyone has to play like that just because you said other wise is wrong.

look, if youre not keeping items away from players out of spite or some wild notion of magic items breaking a game, then i wasnt talking to you. personally i have seen numerous dms do this. i am happy for you that your experience has been different. i dont think you have to follow the parcel system, but i do think it works better than random loot and is more fun than inherent bonuses, but thats just me, do whatever you like. and if i want to get sarcastic about low magic settings, then i will
if you look through the thread there are several anti player comments that dont reflect the thoughtfulness of your posts. that is the attitude im responding to. and i think adding a new rarity system will just encourage it more. of course it is ONLY MY OPINION

Oh, I think I get it now. You think that you have to play by every single letter of every word written in the books or errata with absolutely no room to change anything for any reason? Have you ever played D&D before? This isn't a video game. I feel sorry for you if you feel like you are that restricted. I guess that's why you can't seem to understand what "optional" means when people keep telling you that things like the random item distribution system are optional and don't have to be used unless you want to.

To be fair, the timing of the posts indicates he may have been responding to the other when you posted " you look through the thread there are several anti player comments that dont reflect the thoughtfulness of your posts."
edited to add: and yes - I realize that was to Outlaw, but I feel that Gazra hasn't shown the same anti-player comments that you are indicating. Then, again, I don't feel I do either - and I don't have the "Enchant Item" ritual in my world.
Through the ages, many would wonder "Does art imitate life or does life imitate art?" I wonder "Does the art of discourse on the internet imitate the art of discourse in life or does the art of discourse in life imitate the art of discourse on the internet?"
