Re. the aura thing, auras are 'on' by default. Nobody requires monsters with auras to spend a minor action at the start of the combat to activate them. There's no reason to make a PC with an aura follow different rules.

Monsters and pcs do not follow same rules. Id make them take a minor to go to the stance, Id actually make them spend the minor each round to do it too to stay in the stance.

My biggest issue is going to be with the name. My players are very bad about thinking the name of a class is indicative of their personality, meaning anybody who plays a 'knight' must be honorable, and ride a horse, and all that crap.
Mine too
Yes, I do regret my Forum Name...Tech N9ne is clearly the best rapper of all time.
I am currently looking to get in on a Real Adventures PbP game. PM me if you are looking for another PC.

Yes, well, you've shown your bias against the Knight and anything from the Essentials in nearly every thread you've been in so I hightly doubt your reasoning has anything to do with properly interpreting the rules. More likely it'd be just to punish anyone for playing a Knight, though I doubt that'll ever happen in your games, unless your posting here is merely a clever facade.

Imagine a lightsaber duel between Optimus Prime and Batman. You're welcome.

Will you keep doing this, you keep holding unfair rulings against these classes just because. The simple fact is that Stances have their own rules. You do not need to keep sustaining it, otherwise it would have the sustain keyword.
I do have to wonder if you have anything else in that one track mind about the subject at hand.

Spend a Minor at the start of the day, then never let your guard down.

I already have quoted pg 278. There is a reason most spells that can be used until EOE also say "Or 5 minutes". I mean, do you need more empirical evidence? The Stance specifically DOES NOT say that it can last longer then 5 minutes, which is enough for it not to fall into specific over general.
Furthermore, under STANCE on page 55
A stance power lasts until end of encounter, for 5 minutes, or until you use another stance power.
5 MINUTES seems to be pretty universal here. And yes, as a game master, I am going to make you start with it down EVERY COMBAT that happens when the party is not prepared. For that is the way the rules work.

If I had a Knight in my game who asked me to assume that every five minutes he spent a minor to enter/maintain a stance, I'd have everybody he met react to him like he's being hostile. Why? Because he's standing in a fighting stance everywhere he goes. :P
...and that's the news from Lake 4th Edition, where the Gnomes are strong, the Half-Orcs are good-looking, and all the PCs are above average.

Always ready to attack, a situational penalty for Diplomacy, but a bonus for Intimidate?

Words to live by for those facing the Epic tier Knight:
If you can see Chuck Norris, it's already too late.
