My first character, my Gnoll Ranger, Sigrun Dzel

Preliminary Aspects and Character Overview Show

My Gnoll is a Gnoll Ranger whom is Lawful Neutral.  He is from an unnamed tribe that was slaughtered by a Barbarian raid when he was but a small pup. (his 4 litter-mates apparantly dead as well)  He was found however by an Elf, whom had no child of his own (his wife having passed away recently).  Instead of killing him, he adopted him and decided to raise him as his own.  This did not go unnoticed however, with the Council of the Sacred Grove, the leaders of the Elf father's hidden hometown being Xenophobic due to a past assualt on their hidden village by humans who seeked to mine the rare stones that were, as legend said, to be underneath the village.

After being kicked out, his new father took him with him to Icewind Dale, a harsh region, but would provide them solitude from those who would seek to hurt them.  He taught his knew son the skills his elven brothers had with Bows and the ways of the wilds.  He was not a lapdog however, and instead decided to favour the Crossbow rather than the elegance of the Bow as his father tried to teach him.  As he grew older, his physical strength grew in normal gnoll standards which caused a heavy burden on the surrogate father.

With great sadness, his father informed him that he had came-of-age (9 years, as he had heard that was about the age Gnoll's kicked their pups out) and had to go and find his own way in the world.  This, at first left the gnoll's heart broken at feeling betrayed.  He had fun times even though he felt like everyone in the world hated him for something that was not his fault.  He knew of the horrible things his race did.  He knew people judged him simply on the basis of association.  He didn't care as long as they kept it to themselves.  With a heavy heart, he took his father's parting gift...a gnoll crossbow he had recovered from the tribe's remains and had repaired.  Packing this and his longsword and dagger, he left with a hatred for those people whom despised him.

For a year, he wandered the forests and swamps of the Icewind Dale region, carving out a living from the land itself.  He avoided hunting the more 'civialised' races as he knew that would draw negative attention to himself.  However he was able to trade furs with the barbarians of the region whom understood his hatred of humans and otherfolk.

He eventually reached the border of Icewind Dale, traveling seemingly randomly without a map and came apon a tribe of his fellow kin.  He was wary at first, having heard the many bad things his race had done, but suprisingly he was allowed into the tribe's village without quarrel, though he was reminded now and again that he was an outsider.  It was there however... he met her and felt at home.  She was the most beautiful creature he had seen... His father had explained the proper etiquite when it came for civialised beings to Court a female, and so he approached her on the third night of his staying in the village.  She was nice to him, but however, rejected his advances quickly, explaining that the code in this village is that every gnoll must work for the whole tribe, and shows of strength is what commands breeding rights.

At first he thought he was going to be heartbroken as she explained it...but he understood.  He would do anything to live here.  The solitude...it was well-hidden that the other races could not find it.  He swore to her that he would bring proof of his strength.  He proudly stated out loud that he would slay a Dragon to show his prowess in battle and his worth for the tribe to accept him as one of their own.  The shocked gnoll female was taken aback by this, along with the hyena-laughter of those others who heard it, but he didnt care.  He kissed her paw, took his supplies along with his possessions and left, making way for the nearest civialised settlement.  He would risk being there to find out rumoured locations of Dragons.

It was in his travels around the world, searching and training apon Dragon-related species to hone his skills against reptillian creatures, that he met a group of people that would change the rest of his life...

Hyena-Furry and proud of it.
