Recently my friends and i have been discussing what class we would be if we lived in a world similiar to dnd, based on our real life interests. Not necessarily our favorite class, or the one we think has the coolest powers, but the one most like us.
It was a lot of fun, and since we were about to start a new campaign that i would actually get to play in (usually i dm) I asked everybody to try playing as the class that they feel is most like them in real life.
It was so much fun! We were definitely not the most optimized characters or a group with the most synergy, but concept wise, it was great.
Granted, we have a pretty diverse group of people, between star athletes, artists, computer nerds, musicians, and journalists, so we had a pretty diversed and fairly balanced sort of party.
Personally, I was a hybrid Sorcerer/Ranger mainly because of my love of hiking and exploring nature, speaking skills, and love of magic within literature.
I don't know much about optimization, but im pretty sure I could have had a better build than this. But in the end, for our group, it didn't really matter, I still did well enough.
Mostly everyone else were at least some type of multiclass if not hybrid, which I can understand. It can be difficult to classify yourself within one class.
So for you guys im wondering: Has anyone ever tried this sort of thing before? What class do consider yourself to be?
Hope to hear from some of you guys soon!

I've done this before, but the people I play with tend towards... the nerdier bunch, I suppose? Though, until two of the people PCSed, we had a slightly more diverse group.
I'm definitely a ranged/implement artificer with a crossbow (preferably hand). I'm not a great shot, but I'm decent and my entire job revolves around fixing electronics, and my hobbies include tinkering with my computer and programming.

A friend of mine also chose Artificer because he enjoys working with technology, but he was hybrid with rogue because we all sort of agree that he has a bit of a rogue mentality.
Also, I didn't mean to imply that my group is not nerdy. We just have a variety of backgrounds and I think many of us were more closet nerds for a long time. But hey it just shows how great DND can be at bringing people together. It's really a shame that many can view it so negatively

I'd be a cunning bard. I like to write and tell stories, jokes, poems....I have the creativity of a true artist. I also like history and science....so I'd think I'd be some sort of Bard/Wizard hybrid, maybe Bard/Psion, or just pure Bard since they can learn history and arcana.

I think I'd be a Paladin of Ceiling Cat. I have a set of morals largely adopted from early 90s Shounen anime, and I tend to go out of my way to help mah friends when I can. Plus I seem to have a decent tolerance for pain and can get extremely defensive about things I like.
Although, I could also go druid what with mah love of animals but then I could cover that by adding a flavor-only cat companion to a pally.

Copy effects work like a photocopy machine: you get a copy of the 'naked' card, NOT of what's on it.
Funny story: InQuest Magazine (I think it was InQuest) had an oversized Chaos Orb which I totally rooked someone into allowing into a (non-sanctioned) game. I had a proxy card that was a Mountain with "Chaos Orb" written on it. When I played it, my opponent cried foul:
Him: "WTF? a Proxy? no-one said anything about Proxies. Do you even own an actual Chaos Orb?" Me: "Yes, but I thought it would be better to use a Proxy." Him: "No way. If you're going to put a Chaos Orb in your deck you have to use your actual Chaos Orb." Me: "*Sigh*. Okay."
I pulled out this huge Chaos Orb and placed it on the table. He tried to cry foul again but everyone else said he insisted I use my actual Chaos Orb and that was my actual Chaos Orb. I used it, flipped it and wiped most of his board.
Unsurprisingly, that only worked once and only because everyone present thought it was hilarious.
My DM on Battleminds:
no, see i can kill defenders, but 8 consecutive crits on a battlemind, eh walk it off.
Hi guys! So, I'm a sort of returning player to Magic. I say sort of because as a child I had two main TCG's I liked. Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon. Some of my friends branched off in to Magic, and I bought two pre-made decks just to kind of fit in. Like I said, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon were what I really knew how to play. I have a extensive knowledge of deck building in those two TCG's. However, as far as Magic is concerned, I only ever used those two pre made decks. I know how the game is played, and I know general things, but now I want to get in the game for real. I want to begin playing it as a regular. My question is, are all cards ever released from the time of the inception of this game until present day fair game in a deck? Or are there special rules? Are some cards forbidden or restricted? Thanks guys, and I will gladly accept ANY help lol.
I have the same problem with women.
Is this my new ego sig? Yes it is, other Barry

And that's why you should never, ever call RP Jesus on being a troll, because then everyone else playing along gets outed, too, and the thread goes back to being boring.
See, this is why RPJesus should be in charge of the storyline. The novel line would never have been cancelled if he had been running the show. Specifically the Slobad and Geth's Head talkshow he just described.
Not only was that an obligatory joke, it was an on-topic post that still managed to be off-topic due to thread derailment. RP Jesus does it again folks.
I think I'm gonna' start praying to Jesus... That's right, RPJesus, I'm gonna' be praying to you, right now.
O' Jesus
Please continue to make my time here on the forums fun and cause me to chuckle.
Amen.
It was wonderful. Us Johnnies had a field day. That Timmy with the Grizzly bears would actually have to think about swinging into your Mogg Fanatic , giving you time to set up your silly combo . Nowadays it's all DERPSWING! with thier blue jeans and their MP3 players and their EM EM OH AR PEE JEES and their "Dewmocracy" and their children's card games and their Jersey Shores and their Tattooed Tenaged Vampire Hunters from Beverly Hills
Seriously, that was amazing. I laughed my *ss off. Made my day, and I just woke up.

This would be difficult... I think I'd be closest to an Artificer/Paladin fluffwise; someone who's very defensive of his friends and willing to stand where it hurts, and also someone who thinks about stuff and tinkers with it where possible.
But I'd also probably be a very bad one at it xD I don't have the physique to back it up in a world like that.

Interesting... hmmm... I have fenced saber and taken martial arts, so definitely somethign striker-ish in there. I used to be a hockey goalie, so defender isn't out of the question either. I used ot have rage issues as a kid and I'm am now slow to anger, but it tends to be pretty explosive once it gets there. Maybe some kind of Rogue/Monk/Barbarian/Fighter combination. Guess I'll have to go as a Hybrid from Windrise Ports.
Sorry WOTC, you lost me with Essentials. So where I used to buy every book that came out, now I will be very choosy about what I buy. Can we just get back to real 4e? Check out the 4e Conversion Wiki. 1. Wizards fight dirty. They hit their enemies in the NADs. -- Dragon9 2. A barbarian hits people with his axe. A warlord hits people with his barbarian. 3. Boo-freakin'-hoo, ya light-slingin' finger-wigglers. -- MrCelcius in response to the Cleric's Healer's Lore nerf

Dude, that's awesome. What are Ceiling Cat's domains?
Another day, another three or four entries to my Ignore List.
