You have a most gentlemanly Avatar Mr. Nata Trebble Role. It certainly inspires confidence and has a certain panache.

My name is Dean,22, Big Guy. I currently live in New York. I'm new as they come as far as Dungeons and Dragons goes, don't even have the books yet just got the quick start stuff as a gift. I'm into many things, PC gaming, MagicTG, RPGs, and Music, I also enjoy some history,Sun Tzu and the art of war. Currently I play WoW, Starcraft 2 Beta and Street Fighter 4 on PC. I'd say in terms of years of gaming in general probably since I was 5 or 6 starting with a Nintedo that had Contra and Super Mario Bros.

I'm looking into playing Dungeons and Dragons 4e but so far haven't found anyone within my circle of friends who want to commit so hopefully I can find others here who live nearby in the area who would want to meet up sometime, there is a local gaming store nearby where I live that sells and does D&D stuff but I'm somewhat shy in walking in by myself to play. Call it anxiety or laziness but I'd rather meet outside of a store since its tempting to buy stuff while I'm there and I'd prefer meeting people in the comfort of a home instead of a noisy mall.

(Sorry for any errors, for some reason my Palm Pre resets the view to the absolute upper left hand corner whenever I type, so I cannot see what I am writing. Good times with new tech!)

Hello,

My name is Will, I am 28, and I live just south of Seattle, WA in Covington.

I have been gaming in vardious forms since I was 13 ( pen and paper, the consoles, pc, card games, etc.), but recently have found myself spread too thin to really enjoy any of these.  So I have decided to re-commit to DnD and Star Wars Saga Ed in order to get the most out of my gaming time and dollars.

I look forward to exploring these boards, learbing new things about my two favorite games, and and getting to know some of you.

Hi everybody!

I'm John, 28, and I'm the online ambassador for Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, CA

I'm a veteran D&D player and GM, and I've got a healthy amount of experience playing additional systems ranging from World of Darkness to Kobolds Ate My Babies. I like board games and miniatures table-top games - I LOVE Warmachine - and I'm always up for learning something new!

I joined the community here because I'll be running D&D Encounters nights at Brookhurst starting next week on the 16th, and I wanted to equally get the word out as much as possible, as well as begin to touch base with other players/DMs and generally put my finger on the pulse of the current online community.

So check out Brookhurst's group, and if you're in the Orange County area, come by on Wednesday nights and play!

I live by the motto that people should make their own decks.

Your deck is like an extention of you. You handpick every card and place it in your deck. And when you win, your cards that you chose are what you won with. But when someone else makes you a deck you just don't feel the same when you win. And you don't get the feel of the deck...

Yes.  Yes you do.  That's okay though, because it's at least partially true.  A person will pick their decks according to their personality.  I will say that choosing to let someone else build a deck for you is fine: it reflects an optimization-based personality.

My personality is more vicious though: hence my black, green-black, and black-white preferences.

so why even play a fighter if you can play the paladin the exact same way behaviorally and get added power to boot. "Paladin" is about accepting better game-enhancing mechanics at the price of more rigid in game behavior.

Really?  So it goes something like this?

Fighter: "I want to be a paladin."
NPC: "Really?"
Fighter: "Yes."
NPC: "Very well."  Starts reading from a holy book while still in-character "Do you accept having to choose and stick to the lawful good alignment, eventhough neither of us actually knows that it exists or what it is?"
Fighter: "I do."
NPC: "Do you reject good game balance because you accidentally rolled a high Charisma?"
Fighter: "What?"
NPC: "I don't know what it means either."
Fighter: "Oh.  Umm, ok I do."
NPC: "In the name of all that is metagamey and broken, accept these better game enhancing mechanics."
Fighter: "These what?"
NPC: "Just get out there and try to fulfill a million different people's notion of good while not violating and part of any of them."

So the system is designed such that every single hit needs to be described to avoid confusion?  Here's a scenario.  The players are nudists, everybody in the world are nudists, it's not weird, it's totally normal in this land.  They are naked and they fight drakes taking damage throughout, but healing up with surges.  Later they meet the guy who raised the drakes.

Part 1:  I didn't describe any of the hits.  What does he see?

Part 2:  Lets say I described the drakes as biting the players, yet they healed up.  What does he see?

Sadly Magic has far fled from that direction. I don't go on a rant though =P
