Dragon 385 Spellscars By Daniel Jones
Today in Dragon, we a bunch of new feats for Spellscarred Characters! In the decades after the Year of Blue Flame, scholars noticed that the Spellplague frequently expanded the native characteristics and habitual activities of its victims. A quality each one possessed would be adjusted, twisted, and sometimes remade. For example, an elf's sight could morph to allow it to see that which is normally concealed, or an eladrin's ability to move could cause nearby creatures to move as well.Talk about this article here.

I would have liked it, if this article included support for PH3 classes.

Good stuff. I was hoping the Spellplague would get some more attention and this article is a start.

Good stuff! Now a character can gain benefits from having a Spellscar without having to Multi-class, they should of done this awhile ago. Still better late than never.
I survived Section 4 and all I got was this lousy sig
Off-topic and going downhill from there

I think they may have to change the dragonborn one a bit as ongoing 5 necrotic on the targets of dragon breathe is a bit much, but that is kind of expected with Dragonborn.

The dragonborn feat may look heavy, but remember that you have to take a character trait that hurts you (-2 on defenses and saving throws against spellscarred/plagued creature, unless you take the PP ofcourse) and two feats, all to get a bonus on an encounter power. And it's the type of damage most resisted by creatures.
My favo(u)rites: Pernicious Onslaught (bassicly it makes your enemy share his ongoing damage with adj. creatures at the end of his turn everytime he fails his save), Plagued Breath, Plagueforged Accuracy (you might even consider using your reroll, even when not needed), Spellcharged Channel (gives Pallies their Channel Divinity the Artificer's 'Magic Weapon' effect when they have an adjacent ally and enemy) and Spellscarred Invigoration (go defenders!, especially swordmages). And Unexpected Flourish is probably waiting to be exploited :D
Now all we need is some more powers.

Really love these feats, how they don't require the spellscar multiclass power but gain extra benefits if you have them.
Also these are really great feats for anyone using Spellcars as Aberrant Dragonmarks in an Eberron game. I think there's a racial spellscar feat for every race that has a True Dragonmark, and then some.
P.S.: Congrats on your dreams coming true Dan. I hope your baby is a happy and healthy one.

Indeed, congrats to Dan! This is a long over-due area to be explored. I haven't had a chance to look at the actual article yet, but I saw it on the TOC and have been looking forward to it for weeks now. I would have liked it, if this article included support for PH3 classes.
Or races.
Seeing as the PHB3 only came out a week ago, I suspect Dan had no access to the PHB3 mechanics, excepting previews (and design is always much better when it's based on the actual rules, rather than playtest stuff).
Who knows? If this article meets with significant approval, then we might well see more spellscar articles that go into the PHB3 races/classes (and new powers?). It's certainly worth giving it support!
Cheers

Indeed, I suspect Dan was given no access to PHB3.
Luckily he was wise enough to include feats with no racial prerequisites as well. So your shardmind battlemind (hahaha) might still be able to benefit from the article.
