1) Index that freaking database. It is WAAAAAY too slow searching when you view all feats or powers. Given that there's only a few thousand records in either one, it's embarrassingly bad performance when doing a text search.
2) Give me a sandbox, similar to the monster-builder, where I can drag feats, powers, PP and class features, etc., and then I can click on each one to get a view of it, or perhaps even *gasp* get a preview of all the sandboxed items' cards next to one another.
3) Simpler ways to create "new" cards - in fact, why not just give me a blank card with the ability to type in the boxes? Then methods to save the card and make it available in a "custom entries" spot or something. Being able to then export those custom cards for import into the DDI systems of other players and my DM so I can share them among my game table (or this community) would also be smart.
4) Enable modification of existing cards (such as adding notes or changing the text in the main box)
5) Enable choice of colors for card types
Yeah. I did just kill your BBEG with a vorpal frisbee. Problem?

I'd like to see (and, yes, I know that some are repeats): - cards that you can modify yourself as well as blank cards that one can type into;
- ritual cards that list the level, component cost, casting time, associated skill, etc.;
- further expansion of the rituals listing on the character sheet (my LFR ritualist has over 40) with the ability to hit a button and alphabetize them;
- instead of giving an overly summarized listing of feats, race, and class features, just quote the lines from the book;
- special race and class abilities made into cards (e.g., a red encounter card for Virtue of Prescience for the Prescient Bard, a card reflecting the deva's racial use of Hand of Fate, etc.)
And, I'd like to say thank you to whomever for changing the Action Point card back to its original, "watermarkless" background, while including the effect given to the action point by way of the paragon path.

1) It would be nice if the power cards only showed relevant information. For example, a Swarm Druid might take a power that has a rider for Predator Druids, and the card will show that rider. For novice players this is often very confusing.
2) Having blank cards that you can type into (as others have said) would be wonderful for house rules
3) More synergy between feats and powers. For example, someone playing an elf ranger might take the feat that gives +2 to the Elven Accuracy reroll and another feat that adds damage if the reroll hits. It would be nice to see this printed on the power card for Elven Accuracy.
4) Ritual Cards is a very good idea. We often spend time in game looking up rituals. I don't know how well the Power Card packs sold, but if they sold well it might be worth making packs for rituals and magic items. (Yes, I know that last part isn't for CB)
5) I also like the idea of a Holding Pen like in the Monster Builder. Very often when selecting feats and powers I have to write down the ones I am interested in, and then go back and compare. It would be extremely useful to be able to drag them into a Holding Pen and compare within the program.
Thanks for all the great work. My friends and I all love the CB!

Howdy,
1) I like to use journal entries to keep a running commentary/history for all my players. How about an option to print "No Journal", "Minimum Journal" (these two exist already), or a "Full Journal". I know this is not a high priority issue, but it has been on the "known issues" list for a long time already.
2) I use CutePDF to print my character sheets to PDF files, but I would still vote for a "low ink" option of a character sheet. I can do some of this with printer set-up options, but anything would still be helpful.
3) I admittedly have an underpowered and under-memory'd PC but apparently performance issues aren't limited to me. If I shutdown everything else beforehand CB loads/runs at a tolerable level.
My $.02,
rlm

1. Stop placing images in my "My Pictures" folder. Seriously, I don't want a ton 128x128 pixel images of all the different races/classes cluttering up my images. Every time I open up a program the utilizes the Windows 7 Picture Library functionality... I see those durn character builder files. I deleted the images, but every time I start up the Character Builder they get slapped right back in there. Can't Character builder keep its image resources in its own program folder?
2 See #1
There are some other minor gripes here and there, but for a first version, it's super rad and useful. I work in a comics and gaming shop, and I'm always talking up how useful the DDI computer tools are.

1) Another gripe on pictures. If I put my character info and picture on a removable drive (including a flash drive), it works just fine. If I then take that removable drive to a different PC where it gets assigned a different drive letter, and direct the Character Builder to the character info, it can't find the picture that is sitting there right next to the character info. So it gives me a default picture which fits very few characters.
When the picture is on the same drive as the character file, would it be that hard to store the picture's path relative to the character file?
2) There is a problem with the stats on power cards for users of multiple weapons/implements. I happen to play a Tempest Fighter|Ranger Hybrid. If Character Builder thinks I am currently wielding my bow, the power cards show what I could do with my melee weapons - NOT including the bonuses that derive from my wielding two melee weapons, because I'm wielding the bow.
I would like to see the attack/damage stats for my bow under the assumption that I'm wielding my bow, and the attack/damage stats for my short swords under the assumption that I'm wielding my short swords, and so on. For each weapon, I should be able to choose any and all of the ways it's possible to wield it that is relevant to that power: two-handed, main-hand with another melee weapon, main-hand alone, off-hand with another melee weapon, off-hand alone(?), ranged/thrown. (I think that's every possibility for any weapon.) It may be necessary in some cases to specify which other melee weapon.
(How to handle my defenses, which are higher when wielding my Rhythm Blade offhand and another melee weapon mainhand than when wielding my bow, is a more complex problem. Maybe actually adding some text in the "Conditional Bonuses" sections...)
"The world does not work the way you have been taught it does. We are not real as such; we exist within The Story. Unfortunately for you, you have inherited a condition from your mother known as Primary Protagonist Syndrome, which means The Story is interested in you. It will find you, and if you are not ready for the narrative strands it will throw at you..." - from Footloose

1- Tree selection on "Campaign settings". If i want to remove all RPGA created material, i have to uncheck every single RPGA adventure on that big and growing list. I want to click on a single button "RPGA Adventures" and remove all of them at once. Same for Dragon/Dungeon. 2- Blank cards, or any way to rewrite a power card. Non-english speaker players have a few troubles with the sheet, but we can go around it, but the full text of power cards is useless. Any way to rewrite it, so when I print and give the cards to my players, they will be useful. 3- Easy home content. Let me create an (eg) item and choose prof bonus, crit dice, and type the full description myself on a box simmilar to the official one, instead of a blank .txt. Same for powers, feats, and races. Any way to add new content to the builder is welcome. 4- Let me see my number of healing surges on the builder. 5- See #1. Please, this one is more important as the times passes and the database grow larger and larger.

Metaplot is to DMs what railroading is to players.
There are really three types of feats, in my opinion. My ratings are based on how much they add flavorwise to your character:
Feats that you pick because they fit your character: For instance, Jack of All Trades, Disciple of Lore, Skill Focus, Potent Restorables. In my game, my Artificer studied healing and magic extensively. He had a strong belief that while it wasn't possible to be the best at everything, it was important to understand a bit of everything. These feats didn't add any more opportunity to roleplay; they reinforced the ideas already presented with mechanics to back them up.
Feats that you pick because they represent what your character is becoming:For instance, Multiclass feats, White Lotus Evasion. My rogue is taking a Warden multiclass; representing him overcoming his fears of primal spirits. My artificer is taking White Lotus Evasion, because it represents him returning to his elven roots. These feats accompany adding ideas to your character, and add mechanics that allow these ideas to function where if they were missing, it would not.
Feats You Pick Because You Need Them Or Solely Because of a Mechanical Bonus: For instance, Weapon Proficency, Arcane Implement Proficency, Expertise. If you need to take a feat in order either 1. Complete a reasonable archetype (Enchanter who fights with Sword and Spell) or 2. Meet the expectations that the group puts on you (ie; In order to play in this Super Optimized group, I need to have X otherwise I'm pulling the group down), then it fits this. On the same end, sometimes you're going to pick a feat because it makes combat more fun; not because it adds to your character in any way. Expanded critical hit range? Makes the game more fun; but other than "My character got better", there's not much to it.
I would say that general feats often fall more often into the "Solely Because of a Mechanical Bonus" column. There's exceptions of course (Skill Power), but that's generally how I perceive things.
My DDI subscription is renewed. I really missed the compendium on my table.

Overall I am very pleased with the Character Builder. The following a just a few suggestions off the top of my head. - Sorting Manage - Campaign Settings - Restrictions by data type as opposed to by book. There are far too many books and rules elements are scattered among them. If I decide to disallow a certain race for instance I want to more easily be able to restrict all rules elements associated with that race without having to search through dozens of books to see if there is mention of something specific to that race.
- Gems - Why are there no gems in this program? Seems ridiculous to me that they are not in there.
- Full Color Character Sheets - For those of us with color printers it would be nice if the Dungeons & Dragons logo for instance was in color. Also color coding (or at least having the ability to color code) the different panels of the character sheet could make certain oft needed data stand out.
- Reverse change to Adventurers Kit to show all the parts of the kit when displayed in inventory. In a larger sense allow all containers to actually contain other items of inventory.
- More features in Custom Rules. For instance give the ability to have a feat alter other game statistics on the character sheet.

Concerning "Default" Rules

The argument goes, that some idiot at the table might claim that because there is a "default" that is the only true way to play D&D. An idiotic misconception that should be quite easy to disprove just by reading the rules, coming to these forums, or sending a quick note off to Customer Support and sharing the inevitable response with the group. BTW, I'm not just talking about Next when I say this. Of course, D&D has always been this way since at least the late 70's when I began playing.

What type 5 improvements to the character builder do you most desire?
Please note that I'm asking for improvements to the CB, not fixes to mistakes. Correcting mistakes in content is obviously desirable, but not what I'm going for here. I'm looking for ideas that would make the CB easier to use or more powerful.
Note that this is a restart of the last version of this thread I started when the CB first hit the floor... so many of those improvements have made it into the CB that it is not very efficienct to sift through it to find things that are desired any yet to be implemented. Accordingly, it seems that starting from scratch might be worthwhile.
Prior thread: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...
Here is my list:
1.) The other attack cards: Attack cards for grab, bull rush, opportunity attack, move grabbed target, etc... (all of the 'attacks' to which every PC has access.
2.) Blank editable power cards: I'd like to be able to add a card to the CB and then type in the information that goes into it. This would give users a way to make a power card do exactly what we need it to do without forcing WotC to do all the tailoring to all possible desires.
3.) A few more options for homebrew item cards: I'd like to be able to assign a few more things to homebrew item cards: Defense bonuses for neck items, Armor bonuses for armor items, proficiency bonuses for weapon items, attack bonuses for weapon/implement, etc...
4.) Alternative panel designs: Some of the panels are a bit bulky. I'd like streamlined versions of these panels that take up less space on the sheet. Some examples: 1.) The defense block has a lot of white space to insert conditional bonuses. It could be condensed to be as thick as the basic attack screen. 2.) Some people don't need to see all the skill calculations. How about a skill panel that is two columns with just the skill name and the total skill bonus (which should be half the size as the current panel).
5.) Reorder Power Cards: A large number of people do not like to cut out their power cards. Instead, they like to have them as reference sheets. For those people, it would be nice to be able to drag and drop to move the cards around so that they can put the cards in the easiest reference order. This would also be nice for those of use that only need to print out a small number of cards rather than all of the cards. Think of the trees!
Edit: A summary of the most popular suggestions can be found in response 57: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...
1. As is already on the list, the ability to rearrange, or choose to show, individual power cards. My preference is to have the main page of the power cards to show the Action Point card, and my 8 main abilities/items. The ability to choose not print out things like my Wizard's 4 cantrips, the Stats quick-card, so on and so forth.
2. Ability to add or delete text from power cards. Notes on the abilities, remove the scaling at high levels (I don't care what the damage increases to at level 11 if I'm level 2), flavor text, or what have you.
3. Ability to edit the Character Background text generated automatically generated. Many of the questions it includes I include in my own entries. (For clarification: If you choose "Born on Another Plane" as an Eladrin, it adds questions such as: What circumstances brought your ancestors to that plane?)
4. On the Powers, Items and Other Equipment indexes, allow better resizing of these based on how much room you actually need. (Resizing all the panels on the character sheet would be awesome.)

Any card that you don't want to print, right-click on it, then select 'Hide'. It will be removed from the display and the printout.
Another day, another three or four entries to my Ignore List.
