Wait, wait, don't vomit in rage yet. Is just that I found this topic on RPG.net and liked the discussion, so I thought to bring it here. How do you feel about a Ranger without Twin Strike? Is it feasible? Is it still a damage-king? How about the other at-wills that et you make two attacks? (hint: there's one in MP2). Discuss.

I have to say that that new one Throw and Stab sounds extremely cool and something I would love to see an optimized build for!

Rangers can go along without Twin Strike now that they have a super errata for Careful Attack Seriously, one can go without one of the best At-Will power in the game and probably do fine. His DPR might suffer a little but it's not all that terrible. If the guy is having fun, his character will be a success.

Twin Strike is still one of the best at-wills in the game, but that never made it mandatory unless you're in a total munchkin game. What held me back in playing a ranger was the lack of a reasonable alternative to Twin Strike. Now with the errata on Careful attack and the new Warning Shot (a little area control), I'll probably give it a shot (pun intended).

It can be done to a certain extent: Careful Attack's errata goes a long way toward making it a more viable idea. OK, now that I'm done talking... *vomiting in rage* HOW DARE YOU TAKE MY TWIN STRIKE AWAY!!!!!!!!

This.
The very idea of not using twin strike makes my eye twitch and I wander around aimlessly trying to remember where I am for a while....

Yeah, yeah, I know how you feel. I'm playing a level-26 Ranger myself right now and have used Twin Strike as my bread-and-butter for all that long. But, you know, just wondering. Maybe, with different at-wills, at least you'd have to make a round-by-round choice, right?

My Beastmaster build doesn't use Twin Strike... so it can be done... a lot of people just like rolling dice, though...

I probably wouldn't build a ranger without twin strike for any reason other than making a point. To actually play the game, twin strike is just too much fun to pass up. Outside of some really rare and entertaining role play, rolling an attack is the most fun part of the game, and rangers get to do it more often than anyone else. So if I'm actually buidling a character whose purpose is to be as effective as I can reasonably make them, he'll have twin strike.
Now, if I did build a "make a point" ranger with the express purpose of not picking twin strike, I'm sure such a build could be a reasonably competent striker build. But it would still be a build to make a point, and I can only get so much enjoyment out of one of those.
However, I am one of those rangers who does use "Careful Strike" more frequently than most rangers. Careful strike is better if you have an opponent with resistance, and it is better for shooting magic ammo (from a cost per hit perspective). And it's better if you are facing a really high armor class.
But twin strike is still the most common at will attack. But the higher level you go, the more encounters and dailies you have and so use of twin strike tends to slow down at higher levels, unless the encounter is unusually long.
