Star Trek TNG had an excellent format. Each 'episode' had two storylines running simultaneously.

Sometimes, the dual stories echoed eachother, like an obvious situation comparing to an insightfully similar situation. Sometimes they contrasted eachother. And so on.

A good device to convey deeper messages, or oppositely, to randomly mix things up.



In D&D, maybe the DM can spotlight two player characters at a time. Seeing how the individual storylines relate and contrast, entangle and diverge.
