I just get angry when people seem to think the HW can be discared as a joke. I wrote an article as a tribute to the HW boxed set here:

I wasn't particularly amused by the 'joke' either, but I just took it in stride.  Other than a few scattered Dragon/Dungeon articles, our entire setting (KnownWorld/Mystara/Hollow World) has been ignored by those who actually own the official material ... and I would be happy if it stayed that way.  The fan-created material that is available right now, and is still in the works, is at least as good as the original material.  In fact, the community has even received input from some of the original authors.  I honestly don't think we need any help from Wizards -- or interference, for that matter.

Hollow World is in my plans for a future campaign, I just need to get just the right group of players together.  It will take a special mindset to enjoy playing in a setting that will, out of necessity, have some fundamental restrictions placed on character behavior and gear.  Plus, I'm still researching how to account for such limitations mechanically in my preferred edition -- 3.5.

You are probably right. Better to see material written for the setting by the ones who know and love it (ie the fans) than someone else.

Very interesting! I would love to hear how that development goes. Have you checked out the Mystara 3E project over at the Piazza? www.thepiazza.org.uk/bb/viewforum.php?f=...

By the way, I set up a Hollow World group at :
