No, although at an educated guess I would imagine its the Player's Handbook: RACE books collected in one (i.e. Player's Handbook: Dragonborn, Player's Handbook: Tiefling). Each "minibook" (pamphlet, floppy, softcover, etc) is 32 pages long. I presume this Players Handbook Collection will be 160 pages long. 32 fits perfectly into 160 5 times. Of course its quite possible this is simply a coincidence and there won't be 5 of these floppies released in time.

No, it couldn't be. The PHB Races aren't being released until the beginning of 2010. He said this was November 2009. My guess is simply a collection of PHB1 and 2. Good for those new to the game, pointless to those of us who already have both books. (unless you're looking ot grab extra copies for other players to thumb through.
Sorry WOTC, you lost me with Essentials. So where I used to buy every book that came out, now I will be very choosy about what I buy. Can we just get back to real 4e? Check out the 4e Conversion Wiki. 1. Wizards fight dirty. They hit their enemies in the NADs. -- Dragon9 2. A barbarian hits people with his axe. A warlord hits people with his barbarian. 3. Boo-freakin'-hoo, ya light-slingin' finger-wigglers. -- MrCelcius in response to the Cleric's Healer's Lore nerf

Alternatively, a suggestion to your players to pitch in and get so they can all thumb through. Hey, the DM shouldn't have to pay for all the books.

If you can't understand how someone yelling at another person would make them fight harder and longer, then you need to look at the forums a bit closer.

He said this was November 2009.
In my defense I'm really bad at anything involving numbers
My guess is simply a collection of PHB1 and 2.
Looking at the authors of this collection it matches the authors of those 2 books perfectly. So that's a fairly good guess.

The list price is $34.95, so I find it hard to believe it will be a collection of the two full books. I would like to say they would release an errata'ed PH, but that would be annoying for everyone who has one. If this is some type of combo of the first two, are they going to do this every year? Release combo books for inclusive of certain portions of all previous books for the cost of one book? Seems fishy, to say the least.

A worst case scenario is that there is such a huge surplus of PHB1 and PHB2 books in their warehouses, that they're literally doing a "2-for-1 deal" for both PHB1 + PHB2 for the cost of one book, as a way of clearing out idle inventory collecting dust.

Unlikely. Didn't they go into reprints for both?

A couple of times they went for reprints. Its the settings books and general splat books (Open Grave and Draconomicon etc) that have suffered sales wise compared to the core books.

A better question is how much did the sales suffer for the crunch heavy splatbooks (ie. Martial Power, Arcane Power, Divine Power, etc ..), when the DDI character builder became very popular and had most of the crunch from these books.
