That is soooo awesome! Man i really wish it was a real class, cuz i would definitly pick it (how cool would a dragonborn lycan be?) but methinks that Lycan Reflexs should give a bonus to your Reflex defense or your Dex. And Howl should aid your friends. But still the Lycan class is EPIC.
had you plundered the black box from the 1980s you would have the lycanthropy template which declares 'Mammals' to be a potential lycanthrope form - and as Human is a Mammal - Human is a potential Wereform -
This is important because as we look at Lycanthrope (Lycan) in its protoindoeuropean meanings Lycan is 'Lik-Ansu' meaning 'Body/form-demon', however the word 'ansu' (demon) breaks down into 'an-su' meaning 'ancestor - swine'. So Lycan means 'having the body of an ancestor -swine'. This is an extremly valuable term because Lycan can be used to refer to 'having the body of the ancestors' - meaning 'neanderthal cavemen' so basically Lycan is anyone who is 'abnormally large, hairy and powerful' reminiscent of the ancestors.
Anyway back to our 1980s Lycanthrope template -
AC is improved by 6 (for small lycans), by 4 (for human lycans), and 2 (for large lycans). HD x8 for small, x2 for medium, x 1.2 for large Movement: Double speed
Attack: Existing attack forms + Weapon (meaning potentially two attacks per round for a weapon using werehuman) Damage: +2 (for small lycans), +4 Medium lycans, +6 Large Lycans
So lets call it a pure strain lycan.
The Citadel Megadungeon: http://yellowdingosappendix.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/the-citadel-mega-dungeon-now-with-room.html
- The transformation power could be cleaned up a bit. Instead of saying "takes one turn to transform", just say that these changes are applied at the end of the character's turn.
- Howl is quite vague. As written, does not have a duration on its debuff, and it scales up to a ridiculous amount. -9 to AC means EVERYONE EVER hits on 2s
- lycan reflexes does not make sense to me. On top of that, a +2 bonus based on something as variable as the size is more deserving of a feat slot, and +2 to attack rolls is quite big
- rage of the beast is iffy, 1d10 to one damage roll, against the guy that bloodied you...
The class is defined as a striker but lacks any definitive type of striker feature. So aim for - a damage bonus with a relatively easy condition / ease of application and/or... (Ranger's quarry, sorcerer's boost, etc) - an accuracy booster (rogue's +1 with daggers, avenger's oath of enmity)
Depending on what at wills the Lycan will have available, the class will need an appropriate striker feature. -Rangers get the almightly twin strike, so they only get tier*d6 on hunter's quarry, plus prime strike if they are ranged -rogues get basic at wills far from the level of twin strike, they use smaller dice for their weapons. If they opt for daggers (smallest attack dice in the game), they get a universal +1 to attacks. Regardless, they get +2/3/5d6 (effectively d8 with one feat) once per turn conditional on combat advantage.
so for the lycan, perhaps give it some additional bonuses (incentives) to use the claws and teeth. Attack roll bonuses don't seem to fit this class, so find some way to slap on a nice damage boost....
