Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get MP to load with the diceroller dll in the same folder. It appears in the task manager for a few seconds and then vanishes.

Do you have v6.1? I had that problem as well with 6.0.
If that doesn't fix it, let me know!

I download the new versions practically the second after they are released. I admit, I'm kinda addicted to this program and can't imagine running 4E without it now.

So, if they aren't in the folder, MP loads fine?
Hmm. Not sure what to say. Is it the Dice Roller or the other one that is the problem?

You plan on updating Masterplan to make it compatible with the Monster Builder's cut/paste feature when it comes out? I know that Masterplan is designed with everyone (even non DDI peoples) in mind, but I think it'd be great to have that compatibility in an already great campaign manager.
I DMed a few games with it... now I can't stop using it because it makes everything so much easier while DMing.

Monster Builder went live, so ability to insert monster as a picture is needed badly. Clean, easy and fast way to add monsters from MB to Masterplan.
P.S. BTW - the thread about Masterplan should be moved to Digital D&D. There lot's of ppl there talking about new progs which do things Masterplan IMO does better and that's all they can do...

Looking for some help; When i try to use the compedium loader tool, it just sits there and says "loading text, please wait". it will prety much do this indefinately. The longest i've let it sit was about 15 min. I can cancel, so the program has not locked up. Any one got any idea on why or how i can fix it?
I still havent been able to get the compedium loader tool to work. I would really appreciate some one telling me how long it takes them to load a monster from the compedium and the steps they use to do so incase im just being stupid.

I open the critter in a second tab either by right-clicking or using the center mouse button.
If you're using Mozilla you can right click the page and select "view page source" which should open up a smaller window with the monster's stats in html. highlight this code and use ctrl-c to copy it. After that open the compendium loader and use the "paste" option. The compendium should recognize it. That's how I do it anyway...

It doesn't work for me either, Firefox or IE, both are the current versions. Using Windows XP Pro. Downloaded campaign builder three hours ago, so it's the latest version of that and the compendium file. I copied and pasted the source code and get "There was a problem loading the source data." Saved file as HTML document and it hangs, even tried removing doctype info and extra info in the html tag. Hangs. Deleted the extra spaces at the top...hangs.

I got the same thing, however ....... what i noticed was it did load the monster into a "test library" instead of the library i chose. So i just grabbed and dragged the monster to the library i wanted it in. I'm also using IE.
So i'd say i'm operating at about 80%. I can get them to load now. It just tells me there was " a problem loading the source data" and puts the data in to a library it makes up.
BTw, thanks MatthewSwift, some of it was my own stupidity.

Thanks for pointing that out. I completely did not notice that. While it's still a bug, at least it's still way better than typing in that info manually.

One that pulls data from the compendium. One is a dice roller. One is a file parser so that I could put all of the monsters from "Open Grave" into a folder and then import it as a separate library. And one is a travel calculator. I am playing a space game, so I used x, y, z coordinates but obviously putting 0s in the z place makes it work for overland just fine.
Can anyone think of any other add ons they would like to see?
Thanks!

They should be cut into separate tiles (one in each file, not pdf). Then you make a new library, go to Tiles tab and press an arrow near Add to open Add folder option. Usually it adds correctly, but sometimes you'll have correct the size of tiles added.
And read the manual - it's very handy.

I would love to know how to add creatures from the compendium (the one on the wizards site where I am a DDi subscriber) to masterplan. Well you've already built the add-on but I can't wrap my head around so you have to pretend I'm really dumb when you explain it.
On your site I found something that's probably a tutorial on how to use it but I definatly don't understand it. I'm gonna go through this step by step.
Compendium add on: There are a few more instructions. It's not the best interface but here's how it works.
Press the login button first and in the area below the Web Page label a login will appear for the compendium. Go ahead and login. You might see an error in the web page but that's fine. (I need to fix that.) You are still logged into compendium.
What login button? I assume you are talking about the Wizards.com login button to access the compendium? But then you talk about some error that you need to fix so it's probably not on the wizards site (unless you work for them maybe).
Once that is done, select a directory to save the data. You can use the button next to it to choose a directory. I suggest making new directories for each group of data that you download.
Hmm where do I select a driectory from, what's going on right now, am I on the wizards.com site now or in the masterplan program, or are you just talking about making a folder ready for saving into?
Next, select what you want to download from the combo box. Let say you select Monsters.
What "combo box" , can I add more then just monsters from the compendium?
You can see that I am lost from the start on. This tutorial seems to assume you know how this add-on works but I can't even see where to begin.
Hopefully you can give me the blonde manual :D

Ok ignore my post. I was working with the compendium add-on I got from the Masterplan website and the other one of course showed me all those option you named in the tutorial. However when I "start at 1" and "Max data 10" it goes from 1 to 11 in start at (why would you go to 44 with max at 10 as you suggest in your tutorial). However the html are no creatures but files wich say

I will look at this when I can but it won't be a for a day or two.
The problem is that I haven't done regression testing myself. I got the monsters and then kept using them, instead of getting them all again! So, I need to test my new version with the new version of masterplan as well as the monsters, in case things change.
I hope to have that time in the next few days or over the weekend.
Thanks!

just wondered if anyone have moved scales of war into a masterplaner project?
Is it worth doing for published adventures or is it more for your own thing? Just trying to think how I should run it, the old manual way with a big binder, or go digital.. Though I know my player would still prefer seeing the map on the table and them moving their own miniatures around the battle so don't think I will use the combat part of the tool, even though its very nice.. only chance of using the tool is if I could hang a project projecting down on my table and they can still move their guys around.. that could be cool hehe..

Okay, new version of the Compendium importer on my web site. Link above. It worked for me today. Let me know if it does/doesn't work for others.
Martin_cy: I think it's worth it. I know it's can cost a lot but with a second monitor and a wireless mouse, my players still CAN move their own character around, even if it's not a figure! However, I do have two guys who are remote, so I need the technology to be able to run the game.

Hi. First of all, thank you! I Masterplan to set up the first 2 scenes in second half of an adventures my guys are currently on. I was absolutely THRILLED with the help of the Skill Challenge builder. That for me is the best part. I went to add an encounter next, but didn't have any monsters yet. So, following the instructions, I created a new folder called Monsters in the same folder as masterplan and started the compendium add on. I opened up the compendium add in and logged in with my DDI credentials (I got the error message you said I might get, but I continued on). I then changed the folder to the monsters folder I created and hit get data. It flashed a lot of errors in the screen and eventually gave me 10 htm files which are all the same error.

I tried this at work first earlier this morning (I work overnights, so it was about 2am edt) and it "sort of" worked. Out of the 10 files that appeared when I loaded it, I got I think 4 htm files out of the 10 with a monster statblock in it. The times that a stat block didn't flash in the window I saw a screen about not being logged in. I had many of the same problems with bringing in Items but the item load into the system after the get data part would hang completely.
So, I came home, took a sleeping pill (need those after crazy shifts) and settled down to take a quick look at it here before falling asleep. My computer had decided to go crazy since the night before and I had to spend an hour fixing it, so now I am fairly groggy from the sleeping pill. My typing may be horrible and I am hoping that everything makes some small bit of sense. Basically - from work (a computer I don't have admin rights to) I was at least able to get about 4 or 5 monsters to import into a folder into the system. No items. They came through the "get data" quickly enough but hung on the importing into the system. From home (a computer I do have admin rights to), I am getting no monsters at all. Just those errors above. Any suggestions? Since I was really stupid and left my project I was working on at work I will have to re-create it tonight from memory since I will be playing tomorrow. It's no huge deal if you can't take a look. I was just crossing my fingers and toes (oh, wait,,,that's a cramp ow ow ow ow)
Thanks!!!
Wasn't sure if I added this somewhere, but I downloaded all the software as of about 1am on July 7, 2009. So I believe I have the newest versions.

So does the Campaign Builder still use the .NET framework, or has it been made Wine compatible for us Linux folks? It won't run in wine for me, so I was wondering if it was something on my end.
But I use it on my laptop, which runs Windows, and it's made my DMing life inexpressably easier.

line of sight sounds neat!! another thing that would be cool (that would take it that much closer to maptool in terms of using map for playing would be light sources..
another thing that would be neat to have is fully custom tookens e.g. pictures ala map tool.. instead of the simple circles..
my players just want it more cool looking, so they can relate more to their characters and the monsters that they are seeing.. They are still not over the fact that I'm considering taking their minis away.. but it is just such a pain to keep printing post maps etc... and fog of war etc is just that much more difficult to do with printed maps and minis..
I am still considering maptool for actually running my players through the dungeeon but masterplanner got some many other advantages!! the only thing maptool got going for it is that it does look nice for the players, and setting up light sources is really cool, and if the players do not bring a torch they really wont see anything.. except for the night vision guys.. which is cool..
anwyay looking forward to the development!!

Is it possible to export monsters into a spreadsheet format or some such?
Not currently, but in the next version there will be a way to export creatures (and traps and skill challenges etc) to HTML, which you could then import into a spreadsheet or word processor.

First, let me tell you how it's your fault that I'm currently too tied up with putting my current campaign into the Campaign Builder to read through the entire thread. I mention this because I was wondering about the possibility to add a kind of town designer, which would combine a map with short npc-descriptions...
Part of me is wondering whether you've already considered that, while the rest wants to thank you for such a great tool.

Yesterday I used the tool to run an encounter for the first time, and I have to say I'm very pleased. I just have a few questions/ideas that I'd like to share:
For PCs, adding conditions and applying damage is greyed out. Is that normal behavior or am I doing something wrong? Tracking conditions has never been our strong side, so it'd be nice from time to time.
On the same token, could there be a warning displayed when you start the turn of a creature that is stunned, dazed or suffering from another condition that affects the number of actions to take? It got late yesterday and I had already rolled the attack of a creature that I then realized was stunned.
One question regarding maps. I set one up using Dungeon Tiles, only to find that I had no way to tell the program which tiles grant cover (statues and the likes). We sometimes use a different tile system with cardboard-made walls (which are a square wide), so I'm wondering whether there's a way to tell the mapper to consider some tiles blocking. The same would probably apply to squares that provide cover and block line of sight as effect of a power (I notioced the overlay-function, and I loved it.).
Oh, and again thanks for making such a highly versatile tool and sharing it with the rest of us.

Can this program facilitate remote gaming in and of itself (ala Fantasy Grounds or MapTool), or is it just a cool way to plan campaigns?
Not by itself (yet) but an easy way to do this is to use Masterplan's player view screen with some sort of application sharing program (Messenger, Skype etc).

For PCs, adding conditions and applying damage is greyed out. Is that normal behavior or am I doing something wrong? Tracking conditions has never been our strong side, so it'd be nice from time to time.
This is as designed. Due to the complexity of modelling PCs, Masterplan assumes that players are capable of tracking their own characters' hit points and so on.
On the same token, could there be a warning displayed when you start the turn of a creature that is stunned, dazed or suffering from another condition that affects the number of actions to take? It got late yesterday and I had already rolled the attack of a creature that I then realized was stunned.
I'll put that on the list.
This isn't in the current version, but it's coming.

Yes you can use it to do gaming.
But
To make it work well, imo, you need a second monitor and then something like TightVNC, which is free, a remote viewer. That's what I do in my weekly game and it works GREAT! Further, multiple people can connect to it, so you can have more than one site see it.

I havn't used the PlayerView yet, but that sounds like a great solution for a problem my group has been facing, and using a webcam to cover the map never really cut it.
Another question, unrelated: do you have the possibility to run skill challenges with the tool, or at least have the apropriate DCs displayed in list view and not only when editing it? Even better would be a way to tick off certain rolls and get the additions to other chesks automatically added. And what about a combination of skill challenges and combat encounters? Or multiple challenges in parallel, as per the recent RSC article... Or... yes, shutting up now.
One last thing, the possibility to arrange plotpoints vertically, i.e. form different rows despite links.

You can add skill challenges to encounters, yes. The rest is in the works.

I'm trying to put master plan on my laptop, I downloaded 6.7 off the website, got the DT1 library and uploaded my monster manual library, but when I try to make a map it says I have no libraries available, and when I check libraries its not registering either of them.

Make sure the libraries are in the same folder as Masterplan. The next time you run it, it should pick them up.

Well found the probable cause, I just wiped this laptop, and I left windows update running, but now that I've checked it out it appear the computer freezes when running windows update (old, crappy laptop) so I don't have .net 3.5 installed.

Hi, First off I want to say that I love this app and I recently got a few other members of my group hooked as well. Anyway I have a request, is there anyway to change the creature tokens on the combat encounters?

Me too, really looking forward to being able to set custom tokes for creatures and players.. my players are not impressed with the current setup.. so would really like to see that as soon as possible...
cheers, thanks for a great tool.

Version 6.9 is now available for download, and includes the ability to set custom images for creature tokens.

I am really impressed with this. I downloaded it for the tile mapping, but the other features look good too. Over the last two days I have designed three encounters nd a skill challenge.
A few points:
When my son ties to run it from his account, it crashes straightaway. This is on WinXPHome. Do you have to be an administrator?
A useful feature on the tile mapper would be if you could click ctrl-d to duplicate the currently selected tile. Also, it would be good if you could save while still working on the map.
For skill challenges, options for automatic successes and automatic failures (eg, if you try to intimidate the lord, automatic failure). Also, some way to show that succes or failure at one stage allows a new skill check (eg, you need to succeed with perception to find someone, and then you get new opportinities to talk to him).
The ability to import monsters from the Monster Builder (which now allows XML exports) would also be neat.

This can be stated in the details or you can not fill in the success field and only fill in the failure field. My suggestion about this part is to do away with the tabs and stack the fields, this would make copying and pasting into it easier. I often type what I am wanting into a word processor and then go from there (helps with spell checking and such). It is not so bad to have to copy all the text into the details and then move bit by bit but if the fields were all visable at once it would be easier.

If you download the compendium addin that is available on the site you can import saved HTML pages. After finishing your custom monster just save the page as a HTML only file and then from within Masterplan go to Tools -> Addins -> Compendium -> add File. Select the file you saved and there is your custom monster.
My only issue with the import is that when you go to the "powers" section of the monster in the library the attack bonus and defense is not auto filled, it is put into the details of the power but you have to manually put it into the field above. However I understand how touchy this could be to code so I am not that worried about it since the end result is the same output.
I do have one other thing I would like to suggest. I am not sure if I am just missing it or what but when I go and start creating encounters I don't have a way to filter the list to only show creatures within a certain level range. Say I am making a easy encounter for a level 5 group, I may only want to show level 3-5 monsters. This is not possible. Also a preview pane for the monster would be nice. Something that would show the stat block of the selected monster. Lastly (and this is due to working on a laptop touchpad which is not as easy to click and drag as it is with a mouse) a button to add the monster would be nice.

I solved this. The issue was with file permissions. As long as the user has full control to all files in the directory it is okay.

I downloaded version 6.10 now, which will download all the monsters from the compendium. Which makes Wizards' Monster Builder superfluous.
Any chance of adding a feature to download traps too?

If there's enough interest, I can certainly try to build a version for other platforms.
I realize this is an old post, but having just discovered your wonderful application last night, I'm wondering if a Mac port is in your plans at all. I run Windows on my iMac using VM software (mostly for the Character Builder), but it eats up a lot of resources and is a bit slow. A Mac port of Masterplan would be absolutely fantastic.
I have only tinkered around with the program so far, but I'm blown away. Great job!

I like the monster builder, but you only get the automated help with the one for unique monsters, not ones you add to the library. Could you implement the monster builder for the add to library function too?

Id love to see a Mac Compatible version of this software. Then i could run it off dropbox and enable me to use it on any computer. As my main pc is windows and my laptop is a mac.
It would save me running virtual software or VNCing into my main computer, and would run a lot faster.
I tried running it with mono on mac however it throws up errors: "libgluezilla not found. To have webbrowser support, you need libgluezilla installed"
and so on. I know this is a mono problem but if you were to make either a mac native or mono compatible version i would be able to run it on my laptop.

The new version doesn't use the Compendium add-in; Compendium and Adventure Tools access is now built-in.
I've recently downloaded the latest version and trying to get the hang of it. I've been able to import Monsters I exported in XML fine, but I'm not finding the Compendium support anywhere, is it still there? It isn't mentioned in the help file.
Also it would be nice if the maps (and images) could be zoomed in and out, and dragged within the window.

Yet another fanboi here; Masterplan is a Godsend. It's almost too fully featured; I still haven't figured everything out.
Which leads me to my question: Why are there no .masterplan-files for download? I've googled and such and found nothing. Does anyone have a masterplan they'd be willing to share, or do you know where one can get them?
Thanks.
