The pitfiend just shook his head at the gnolls charging forward. At the last moment before they swarmed upon him hiw wings streatched to their full extension then collapsed inwards, the mighty gust blowing the holwing pack backwards.
"You're right, Russet. You might be a match for all but the strongest of my kind. A very accurate assessment, and one that is very unfortunate for you."

The ghoul king snarled with disatisfaction. If he wanted to take on more than the lower ends of the devil heirarchy, he'd need to craft some stronger servants... "I wasn't lieing when I said that my servants were a match for all but the most powerful of your kind," Russet admitted. "But me myself..." Before the devil could respond, the ghoul king vanished in a flash of light, teleporting immediately behind the devil. "Am stronger than you." The ghoul king let loose a powerful bite into the devils shoulder, the type of attack that would bleed and bleed sapping the creature of it's strength far more than the original bite would have. OOC

I'm operating on the assumption that this is a standard pitfiend, and Russet is using the Ghoul King stats from the Monster Manual under Orcus... he is one level higher, but I'm not sure how much that would actually matter in a tangle.

The pit fiend simply dissolved into the air under the bite, vanishing from Russet's grasp, reappearing on the far side of the room. "Still not good enough, Russet. I think you over estimate yourself." OOC

Actually, I sort of feel bad about this, I had Gorion himself come. Normally, I would keep exarchs out of MS, but I was going to let the ghouls regain their infernal pact through him . . . I didn't expect it to devolve into a fight.

... Poor Russet :P . That's what happens when you don't communicate I guess. Should have said I intended to start a ghoul on devil war (more of a cold war than the whole minotaur vs gnoll slaugherfest), seems Russet may be getting a lesson in getting schooled.
The ghoul king snarled, his eyes narrowing on the devil before him. "Perhaps I do... trust me though, one day, when next we meet on the battlefield, I can assure you it will be YOU that will fall before me. For now... perhaps we can agree to let you leave without anymore conflict. After all, even if you are powerful, I do have thousands of ghouls in the area, and I doubt even you could fight such numbers."

True. I did try to hint that he was more than he seemed with the bold. Bolding in my LoC posts almost always indicates the voice of divinity, or the name of a god. Even Veros doesn't speak in bold for this reason. He doesn't always back his words with divine power. The pit fiend shook his head, chuckling to himself. "Thousands of ghouls, Russet? And you think they are loyal enough to you to fight against the Lord of the Nine? Or that they would be powerful enough to make a difference?" With a flash of movement Gorion was across the room, holding Russet high against the wall, the gnolls legs flailing uselessly at the air. "Or, that they could arrive in time to save your sorry hide? I came here to renew our offer of power, that you might prove yourself more worthy in your second life. Do you think it coincidence that your soul was reborn into a new life rather than pass on to our clutches? You live by my will, gnoll. I chose to give you a second chance. I would suggest you not waste it." With as little effort as a child flinging a doll, he hurled the gnoll across the cavern once more.

The devils... gave him a second chance? When they abandoned him to die in the first place? These cretaures machinations were so far beyond him he didn't even know what they were saying half the time!
Still, one thing was clear... the ghouls were loyal enough to rip their own heads off for him at a mere whim on his part, but his ghouls were too spread out to come before this devil could finish him once and for all. A hero would prefer to die than become a mere a puppet again. But... Russet was no hero. He was a survivor. He'd strike down these hated fiends, and destroy them once and for all... when the chance arrived. When he had enough power to make it possible.
"I... yield," the ghouls king spat reluctantly, getting up from the ground only enough to kneel before the creature. How humilitating, how disgusting, he'd kill his foe and resurrect him to kill him again a dozen times for this!

Eonam gaped at his newfound strength. He said, "I... I can do that? But... I don't feel any different, just tired. I... I think the warden is still alive. He knows how to fight! I'll find him!" Eonam ran off cheerfully in search of the warden.

The devil's grin finally faded. "I'll inform one of the nine to see to it that we get a few down here to restore your pacts properly." He vanished in a flash of flame, the firesrushing through the room, burning every ghuls in the room to dust, but leaving Russet alive, a fiery mark burned into his head, the mark of Gorion. OOC

No no, it makes sense... it adds insult to injury :P . Plus he can always rip it off or something when he makes his inevitable betrayal
The ghoul king snarled, then pounded his claw against the cave floor. How could this happen! He was supposed to.. supposed to.. gah! And now he was a puppet again! But he knew where the strings were... and one day... he'd slash his pupeteers throat while he slept. Rubbing the firey mark on his forehead, Russet dwelt on his weakness... and plotted his revenge.
