Halflings have no terristial country, but are members of a vast maritime nation. Years ago, the empire of Tycora annexed the Halflings lands and imposed a reign of terror upon the populace. The halfling warlock Terrik Bloodleaf employed magic and treachery in order to gain control of the imperial fleet. As a result, the surviving halflings were able to escape to the seas. Over time the fleet evolved into a sort of pirates republic, and is currently the most powerful navel force in the world. The halflings have many temporary settlements scattered across the world, and they act as trading posts and drydocks. It is even rumored that the halflings maintain several trading posts in the forgotten lands. They also have a few settlements on the worlds great lakes, but these are not viewed as members of the halfling nation. The republic's capitol, Terrik, moves every 11 years, and is usually located near the hub of world trade. It is often referred to as the center of the world by experienced merchants. The halflings do not consider themselves pirates, but view the sea as their domain. Any ship that does not cleave to their rule is fair game. As a result, the halflings play a central role in world trade, as most merchant companies find it more profitable to deal directly with them, rather than pay their heavy taxes or risk capture.
The Violet Archipelago is a vast chain of tiny islands that lie between the three major continents. Few islands are large enough to support any permanent residences, but they are the location of many halfling bases. The inner islands are effectively off limits to non halflings, as few others have the skill or knowledge to navigate the treacherous waters. This is a major advantage for the halflings, as halfling vessels can move through the islands and dramatically reduce the time they need to travel between the continents. During times of great prosperity, the halfling capitol Terrk is often located on one of the outer isles - signaling an apex of halfling power. The archipelago is the closest thing the halflings have to a permanent nation. The islands are named after the halfling flag - a dark violet leaf on a blue boarder.

Rystal, the broken continent, the scourge of terror, the maddening ice, it is the most feared place on the world, and in many of the near planes. Ancient evils long ago destroyed the screws bellow the continent, so that it is in eternal night. It's coasts are mile high volcano-cliffs that spew noxious smoke over the entire continent, blocking even the dim stars. Within is all ice, in the warmer parts the glaciers are of water like normal ice, but further in they are different, some glaciers are of strange malign substances that animate themselves with evil wills, others are contaminated by the emanations of dreaded eldergods, some trapped, others hiding from worse things deeper in. Survivors of the expedition of Argent and the twenty lost dragons, tell that in the depths there is a sea formed from liquid air that precipitates in the extreme cold, beyond that the ash flees from the ground too far for any, even with the best dark-vision to see and the sea of air too freezes, and of those foolish dragons who ventured farther with aid of air elementals, one returned quite mad and suffering from vacuum exposure as his air elemental committed suicide. In many places the cold place is linked to the hells, but no demon lord ever thinks of invading through these portals, the place is the only thing they will admit to fear. And the dragons keep a patrol of the continent, so that they may be warned if any thing should awaken and be able to flee the plane.

Aw, ain't it a pity when these things loose steam. I for one will be using the Elemental Planes from this setting, what else have you guys liked? Are you using anything?
Oh! An idea. Yeah!
The first hero, Wo Tan, from the far south, was an elf that dreamed of immortality. He stole a bottle or jar, of Aether from the Gods and brought magic to Byd. He used the raw magic to become immortal, but he was caught by [the God of Vengenance, the name anyone?] and entombed deep beneath the earth. Every evening a wyrm arrives to devour his liver. It was, in part at least, Wo Tan's actions that caused the elves to split into different factions.

the elves of the world have lived divided for many millenia; so long so that their physical characteristics have grown distinctly different.
the desert elves are a dark tan from birth, and grow bristly white hair that they grow all their lives, and then often cut off at death and incorporate in their crafts and fabrics. they are a proud people who never show fear and boldly confront anyone who infringes on their territory
the jungle elves sport dappled skin that has a tint of green to it - natural camoflage. their hair is dark brown and is often braided with leaves and bark and then tarred with tree sap into straight spines. These elves are elusive in the forests, going unseen on theri hidden trails and living in hidden settlements. In recent times, however, the jungle elves have begun to interact with the human nations, and it is not too uncommon to see one walking the streets of a major city.

Why would anyone go to a hell like Rystal? Because located upon it are the ruins of the ancient draconic empire of Daharladon. It is said that enough gold to buy entire kingdoms can be found within the ruined layers and destroyed cities of the empire. Not many have been able to go there though, and those that do return are usually shells of their former selves, their minds shattered by the broken continent.
Floating far above the clouds is the ruins of Menkargesh, the capitol of Daharladon. Back during the sundering of the empire, when a host of plagues fell upon the land, the capitol of the empire was literally torn from the face of the earth and thrown into the stratosphere. Even now the city is littered with the bones of many dragons who didn't survive the city being sent into the sky, and along with those bones, are the mighty hordes that belonged to them. Getting there is the problem, as the only known way to access Menkargesh is to enter a portal that is in the crater that marked where the city used to be: right in the center of Rystal.

The Zirrta diamond mines are one of the staple sources of wealth for the southern Drow. in these vast caverns thousands of slaves work day and night to gather precious gems for their dark skinned masters. One of the most proliferate races in the mines are the Zirkcsi, otherwise known as deep gnomes. these hapless creatures used to live in a cavern with its own light source and abounding vegetation in the form of colorful fungi, but now they have no lives outside of endless labor in the darkness.
The Drow live in great halls of music and dancing, however outside of the endless revelry of their homes they are ruthless in conquering and merciless in ruling those they capture. at the epicenter of their culture sit the great matrons; drow who have taken on the countenance of giant spiders. these terrifying beings are the hosts of all the greatest balls and feasts; but they are bitter and uncaring about any life other than their own and brutally crush all who oppose them.

Shaman: "Why doesn't the squirrel shoot the wizard?" DM: "Because the last squirrel who tried to shoot the wizard missed, then was pulled out of his tree and incinerated." Wizard: "He has a point."

Ciolu and Rinta, known as The Risen and Fallen, are the gods of victory and loss. Ciolu's icon is a ladder. He chooses the victors of every conflict. Likewise Rinta, whos sign is the falling star, dooms the opposing side to loss. Those who worship Ciolu also revere Rinta, for it is taught that success and failure are equally inevitable.
Greenwater is a small oceanside community that depends on the yearly migration of sealeanth, a large fish, for their survival. The fishermen go out on seafaring drakes with pikes and nets, and bring back reams of fish. However, recently the fish levels have been severely low do to the presence of a dire whale in the reigon which has been eating everything on the coast (including several fishermen.)
