As Eckral had said, so the battle went.

Even as blood began to soak his cloathing, Alaric moved as if the wound wasn't there, ignoring the pain. The point of his blade drove into the orc's left shoulder, the metal finching when it hit bone. He barely had time to withdraw the blade before the orc swung its magical sword. Alaric parried without space to spare but made a riposte nonetheless.

The king's blade pierced the orc's right eye, though it did not have time to go further. In pain the orc lashed out and most of Alaric was out of the way. Most, but not his left hand. It was with curious detachment that Alaric watched his own fingers spasm on the ground.

Tale would spred of this fight, though with time it grew distorted, until it was commonly held among many people's that orc god had lost its right eye to another god, and that was why he demanded his worshippers sacrifice theirs to honor him.

Dredin looked out of his one good eye, watching the aasimar's hand bleed. "We have drawn blood worthy of my time now. Thank you for this gift, Alaric of the aasimar. You will come to regret putting out my eye."

He dropped his sword casually, then began walking back towards his keep. "Your terms are denied. You will not have peace."

Alaric's blade cut Dredin's left thigh; it was not deep, but sufficient to let the creature know he was still there. "Never turn your back on a foe, and never disarm yourself before an enemy. As I said, to death or to surrender. I do not go back on my word."

He spun as Alaric thrust, a single word raising a magical barrier, blocking the sword with a shield of arcane energy. Before Alaric could even bring his blade to bear again, he uttered another phrase and vanished, reappearing near his allies.

"Honestly, aasimar king, I thought you had more honor than to strike a foes back. We shall meet again soon, and I promise, when that happens, we will finish our fight."

The three orcs started back towards the fortress.

As Dredin entered the city, rage grew in the king's heart. "We finish this now."

His wings shimmered and grew for a moment, becoming large enough to bear his weight. With two mightly thrusts, he took to the air and rammed into the gates, cracking it and causing it to cave inwards.

Alaric stood awash in a radiant glow, his eyes burning with white fire. His wounds were healed and a transparent hand of light had replaced the one he lost. Sheathing his sword, he began to pry the doors from their hinges through brute force.

As he did so he gave a shout. His command to commence the assault echoed through the field of battle and the Aasimari began to march again.

The aasimar army flooded through the fortress, finding only a few battle-scarred veterans blocking their way, their age apparent in their ever movement.

Still, these few scattered warriors charged recklessly into the invaders, throughing themselves to their death in battle, battle cries filling their throats until the moment they died.

Those aasimar who began to delve deeper soon found solid doors formed of the stone of the mountains themselves barring their way and slowing them down.

Those who fought upward found almost no resistance as they flooded through the halls and chambers. Before long, they controlled almost all of the upper chambers, and those near the spire reaching to the peaks could here muffled chanting and a lowl laughter coming from it.

Dredin looked at the circle of priests, his eye finding the high priest. "It has gone as you promised, my father. He took my eye, and brought his army in with the speed only a god could provide. I have absolute faith in this. Finish the ritual. Make their catprue of Ravindra a nightmare they will not soon forget."

With the majority of the city secured with no effort, Alaric grew weary. He had thought that the orcs had withdrawn to the city, which is why the advance had gone so quickly, but there were not enough in the city. Suspecting a trap, he ordered the bulk of his army back into the surrounding lands, ordering them to spread out so that the effects of any trap could not damage the entire army, yet to maintain contact in case of assault.

With a small band of hand-selected soldiers, Alaric cleared out the rest of the upper levels of the city and turned to the laughing tower. That he has saved for last.

Dredin stood silently on the balcony, and turned as Alaric and his hand picked trooped invaded his private sanctum. "Welcome, Alaric, to this holy place. I trust you find the city and it's environs to your liking? You will payfor your invasion this day."

He watched as black sparks of energy fired between the assembled priests, before they all fell to the ground, smoking. Only the high priest remained, a vague black aura surrounding him. He raised his hand and unleashed necrotic energy upon the aasimar. In an instant, all of Alaric's hand picked soldiers crumbled to dust, blowing away in the wind.

The priest turned and spoke, his voice a dull but peircing tone, "Interesting creatures, these Aasimar. Servants of Gadabout and Lucis. That one took your eye, giving me the target. And now you have sacrificed his soldiers and your father. Your request is granted, Dredin. This day, from noon until the darkest of shadows of the night, you have my blessing"

The priest exploded, showing blood and gore across the room, leaving only the two warriors untouched. Dredin smiled as a flickering red light was born in his empty eye socket. Without a word, he chatged the aasimar king.

-----

The sun reached it's peak in the sky, signaling noon. Around the citadel, the army looked up in shock. Before their eyes, the sun began to darken, shadows bursting forth., enshrowding the sky as noon became night. the sounds of wings filled the air, and the shadows descended on the army, mysterious swords and shapes flitting about, rushing towards them. A flight of swordwings had answered the call.

The Terra-Kai merchants and guild leaders liked the efreet proposal. They arranged for the efreet to establish a banking facility within Savera only. The main purpose was to provide other races trading with the Terra-Kai a means of securing their notes. In this manner Savera served as a trading hub between Agrilia and Varesh. By allowing the efreet to establish their banking facilities both the Terra-Kai and the other races would be able to deposit large sums of gold for traveling. Any services beyond the loans and notes would need to be further discussed with the Terra-Kai.

Ra'Ver-Alec nodded to Gadabout and smiled at Eckral as he watched the events below and afar unfold. Turning his head slightly back to Eckral his mask smiled and he said, "Conflict? There is always conflict where there are mortals. Their lives and nature demands conflict for them to realize their destinies. You speak of a greater conflict here on this continent, yet you do not know how many 'great' conflicts lie ahead in these lands. Perhaps you wish to know of the wars that will plague these lands?"

Eckral nodded. "Yes, true, any conflict I sense would be related to war. I know it's there, just below the surface, waiting for me, calling out to me, but I find myself deaf and blind, unable to find it."

He paced a moment. "It is a very irritating sensation."
