Alaric fell back, blocking and parrying the thrusts only when necessary, but doing his best to conceal his abilities.

When he was nearing his horse he stopped retreating. With a hand he reached out and patted it on its flank, sending it trotting back to the Aasimari lines.

He had to block a few more thrusts before the horse was out of the way. When it was, his body twinkled for a second before radiant light burst from his skin, battering the orc with the power in the blood of his race.

((that being a racial power))

Eckral considered Gadabout's words. "I suppose I can, but I wasn't looking for it. Thank you, for reminding me to keep all my senses open.

-----

The kitsune continued. "You developed and invested wealth in lands that were ours, without inquiring as to our own interests. It is you who has functioned as pirates, stealng the land beneath us with no care to what we might think."

Thrael'kriss chuckled at Lazarus' words.

I never named who was which, Abomination. And today I am Death, no more no less.

I came to defend a friend against an attack, and I will stay until the attacker leaves land I lay claim to.

Looking at the arrayed forces Thrael'kriss smiled.

Unless you have something I cannot see, or one of our guests steps in, I would say I outmatch you. Leave. Now. As much as I would like to spill your blood it would appear I must find Light.

I would also recommend leaving this land alone, your spawn hold enough of this world without fouling Light's creation.

The orc fell back, shielding his eyes as best he could, using sweeping strikes to keep his foe at bay. His eyes recovering, he dove back in, striking fast, trying to force his foe to fight back for real.

"Flamelord, I am asking that you use Ellaysion gold as the standered currency. And, if you hold a monopoly on silk, that could be most useful to you could it not?
------------

Beast, I could kill you with ease, for I have allies, something you sorely lack. Still, Lucis is gone, and so the source of our quarrel.

With that Lazarus vanished.
-----------

The old King frowned at the boys impertinance, then said,

"A fat sack of gold?"

The efreet shook his head apologetically. "I'm sorry, but we use no standard currency in our financial affairs, but whatever is available. And we have no interest in a monopoly on silk. We are not a trade mission. We seek only permission to operate our business freely in your lands, and offer our services to your people."

This is't the Flamelord your speaking to, just a group of emissaries.

Alaric dodge just a moment too late and the orc's blade glanced off his armor. He felt slightly bad, since the orc seemed not to have any such protection, but the creature had challenged him.

He continued to give ground, waiting until the blows obtained a hint of rythem to them. When that occured he spread his wings and blew a gust of wind at the orc, kicking up sand to get into its eyes. Not caring if the beast was blinded or merely off guard, the king thrust at the creatures head. It leaned to the side just quickly enough that the tip of its right ear and a few hairs fell to the ground.

In return the orc struck out for Alaric's exposed side. The king jammed his arm down, deflecting the thrust so it only pricked the skin of his armpit.

"So we are to blood. I doubt you've had your fill yet; I know I have not had mine."

-----

Gadabout circled above the battle lazily. "As that winged one down there was made king by my will, I suspect you know who I favor in this fight. But, lord Eckral, does one mortal or the other have your favor?"

-----

The boy shrugged at the King of Ellay's offer. "I'd rather have something with a bit of potential. If I succeed, a place in your guard with a chance for promotion?"

The orc grinned. "I suppose first blood was a mistake on my judgement. Though, your better than I imagined a pampered noble would be. I hope your prepared to get serious, king."

He shifted his grip on his blade and dove forward, offering a wild swing that Alaric easily dodge. Even as the blade passed by, Alaric found his vision swimming as he staggered back a step.

Almost as if he had expected to miss, he stepped perfectly and spun bringing his blade around, leaving a deep gash in Alaric's side before he fell back a step, grinning.

Eckral stepped close to the battling mortals, watching every step, thrust, parry, and dodge as if he himself were fighting them. After the most recent exchange, he finally shrugged, looking at Gadabout. "The orc is good, but your king has the upperhand with that armor. Seems about a fair fight, but the aasimar will probably win."

Dredin smiled and threw himself forward, as if repeating his attack again. This time Alaric blocked the incoming blade, and threw him back, before rushing in with his own attack. In three swift swings, he swept Dredin's blade aside, and sank his blade into flesh twice.

Cursing, the orc backpedalled, and began circling.
