Has anyone read Raymond E Feists books?
I really like his cosmology, every world has its own set of gods. The gods are reflections of the beliefs of people inhabiting that world. Connecting all worlds is the hall of worlds, (could sub the astral sea for this) an infinite hallway which leads (eventually) to all worlds in existence.
Would be easy to travel to different worlds at higher levels, aka go for a weekend trip to Faerun or Eberron.
I think I may adapt my cosmology to something similar, id like for my players to have the fate of multiple worlds on their heads at high levels.

Is it a literal hallway, or just a path of light or something?

I dunno. It sounds vaguely familiar. :D Actually the original Planescape campaign allowed for travel into different material planes and different campaign settings as well. I would think this sort of thing would be closer to the idea than Spelljammer.

I'm actually reading Into a Dark Realm right now. I love the Midkemia/Tsuranuanni setting and beyond. I think that the Hall of Worlds would definitely become epic though. From what I get from the books, the people without significant power in the Hall don't last long. It kind of reminds me of Sigil from Planescape except that there is not real city, just a bunch of doors to other worlds.
It might be worth it to try to make a DnD game fit into the world starting at low levels in Midkemia and moving on to planar travel to other worlds and eventually the save the universe activities of the Conclave of Shadows. Good luck if you try it. It's a little too ambitious for me.

You know that Midkemia/Tsuranuanni setting started as a homebrew d&d setting. If my players get to epic levels in my homebrew world im going to let them visit other said setting and maybe midkemia if im feeling ambitious...
And there is honest johns in the hall of worlds? honest johns = huge (huge huge) tavern with entrances in the hall.
