What was the character limit on a post again? 50k or something? I get the feeling I might be getting a bit carried away here...

I get the feeling I might be getting a bit carried away here... Just for perspective: this beast clocked in at just over 25k, and Idunno if you can get much more carried away than that.
I think you're gonna risk the eternal enmity of the judges long before you hit the character limit.
"The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else." -Umberto Eco, from Travels in Hyperreality
"The first adventurer was a nuisance. I am sure he acted against his mother's, his wife's, and the council of old men's strict orders when he did it; but it was he that found where the mammoths die and where after a thousand years of use there was still enough ivory to equip the entire tribe with weapons. Such is the ultimate outline of the adventurer; society's benefactor as well as pest." -William Bolitho, from Twelve Against the Gods

Yea, the entry limit is 50k. I was around 75k when i did my entry for creating a nation and had to drastically trim it down to meet the character limits. I'm sure the judges still had a hard time with that one and i'm sure the length only hurt me instead of helping me. These competitions should probably be written more like newspaper articles rather than book reports for school. The shorter and more concise you can be while still getting your point across the better. It has taken me 3 contests to figure that out, but hopefully this time around my entry won't break 15k. That is my goal at least.
Good luck on the editing. It ain't easy.
I live and work in Japan, near Mt. Fuji, teaching English to High Schoolers. In my spare time I also happen to be a husband, a father, and an Otaku. I run a biweekly DnD game on Sundays and blog about it every other day of the week at http://thedumpstat.blogspot.com D&D Home Page - What Monster Are You? - D&D Compendium

Oh come on people, some of you MUST have ideas. I don't want to place by default, I want to do it on my own merit.

I'm currently on v4 of my NPC. I hope to have it posted around v6.
