It's also disrespectful to your fellow players - if everyone wants to play one class, for example, the game won't be very balanced. Sometimes you have to draw straws and somebody has to be the cleric ... Actually, looks like 4e fixes that one nicely, just from looking at the pregens in KotS and the preview stuff. Looks like there's enough healing to go 'round that you can get by without a cleric.
Granted, party balance is still important, but it looks like there's enough flexibility to lessen the odds of somebody getting railroaded into playing a class they truly dislike.

No is a valid answer, but don't rule out Yes. Don't assume a player wanting to play something is out to "break the game". If no one wants to play the cleric, and I take offense that's a role to be ashamed - clerics are the best with crusaders right at their sides but I digress, it's not the DM's job to make someone play one, and it is a bad DM who "punishes" them for not having a cleric. If the DM never gives what the players want, the DM will have no players. I don't assume it, but a player shouldn't assume likewise that the DM is out to spoil his fun just because he does not agree.
