To-do list
[LIST=1]
  • Update the handbook /builds/ etc
  • Copy-paste the main(s) thread to a doc file, and edit the content
  • Send the file to this address:
    Antarx@yahoo.es

    What's this?
In a few months, D&D 4th edition will come, and (probably) the 3.5 forum and all his content will be archived. Its time to save all the wisdom within these forums, and I think that making a printable pdf book it’s the best option.
So, we must work on some aspects.

    [LIST=1]
  • Sort the content.
There’s a lot of usefull threads, but, if we wan’t to make something “readable” we must sort them with some sense.

I think that we can use the same format as the Core Rulebooks. I posted the index, and now we must add each thread to the chapter that is closer to it.

For example, the classes handbooks can be allocated in the chapter 3 (Classes) of the “players CO handbook (I need a best name for the books… and the X stat to Y Bonus thread, to the 1º chapter (abilities)

  • Update the threads.
Some threads are outdated,  or incomplete. Any suggestion, build, comments or addition to the thread must be made now.
I ask all the CO members to do their best to improve all of them.

  • Edit the content
Some useful threads are maintained, (with all the usefull information condensed in the first posts)but some others, don’t. Some ones started as  some sort of question, and then, enveloped to a great build, or something alike.
We can’t simply copy paste the whole thread, and someone must edit the content,  and organize it.

I think that is preferable that the thread starter does that job (is his thread, after all), but in case of “orphan” threads (In case that the thread starter is no longer on the forums) or in case that the thread started declined the job (for any reason) some other can make it.

In any case, is required to write to a file all the content.

    About the book Show

Why are you using the PDF format?
I have some experience making Character sheets, and I noticed that, if you save it on any document format, (wri, doc, docx...) It may suffer changes, depending where do you open the file.

I noticed it, when I ask a friend to print a few copies from one of my blank character sheets, and some text was displaced, some fonts was changed, etc.

So, I convert the file to PDF, to be sure that ANYONE can read it as it was designed.

Can I add new stuff by myself to the PDF?

Please, don't try to modify the PDF. I work on the MS Word doc version, and I add the new stuff to it, and then, I create the new PDF. The conversion is only from DOC to PDF, but I can't do it from PDF to DOC.

So if any of you add new stuff to the PDF version, I must copy-paste the new content, and the stile is lost.

Can I add new stuff by myself to the DOC version?
Yes, you can, but, as I said, its easier to save the thread into a new DOC file, and send it to me, so I can add it to te main file

    Can I submit stuff? Show

If you have your own thread, and you believe that it may be interesting, send it to me.

If you want to send stuff but it's not yours, please try to contact to the user who made it.

    • If he/she agrees to let you edit it, then it's ok.
    • If he/she does not response, then you can edit it.

    File format

I will suggest to use open office doc files, with the following format

Font (Times new roman, for example?)
Thread name (font size 10, bold and underlined)
Started by (Real name [optional]) A.K.A (nick) (font size 8, italic)
Recompiled by ((Real name [optional]) A.K.A (nick) (font size 8, italic)
(Here can be added a few lines to say something)
    Text of the post.

    Note:

    • Any feat, spell, prc, class, etc, must be referenced to the proper book with upper index font.
    • If it’s required to use text with colours, use dark colors, so if someone wan’t to print the pdf, can choose to do it in B/W without making the text invisible.

    TO-DO list

    • We must find a name for the book(s)
    • I don’t know if we will be allowed to use artwork from Wizard books. Anyways, we need some talented userd to make the cover. (I want a cool book XD)
    • Also, it would be great if we could use the same background of the core rulebooks, but I’t can be copyrighted… we need a official response about that.
If we aren’t allowed to use it, we must make one by our own.
    • Al final note, if someone(s) wants to translate the books to other languages, (not every D&D player speaks English, and we must teach the paths of Pum-Pum church to any who want’s to know them ) they can ask for the doc file, to work on it.

    HOW TO HELP

    • If you had made a handbook / a world record / a powerfull build / etc...

      • and the thread is still active / evolving / incomplete
Complete it let it ready for the next step (we have a few months left, so you have time to let the users to leave comments and suggestions.
      • and the thread is inactive / finished / complete
Copy the text to a DOC file, edit the text to make it more attractive (bold and underlined, etc... see above) and save it. Soon I will start to ask for these copies.

    • If you had NOT made a handbook / a world record / a powerfull build / etc
      You can:

It'd be so nice to have all the information compiled. WOTC's way of archiving stuff sucks, as it strips all formatting, comments ETC away.

OTOH, isn't there a COwiki somewhere? Getting the data there might not be a bad first step?

Many of the handbooks still evolve... perhaps this should wait until 4e?
