Hi, am going to play a warmage in an upcoming game and after reading-Warmages blow etc, Warmage optimisation boards have decided for my game at least it needs fixing. Will post the final 'class' on those boards later.
Need assistance here from an Optimisation point of view. Class is not intended to be broken-just strong vs a sorcerer or wiz comparison. By the way I suck at formatting so sorry in advance
Class ability fix- Weapon prof: In addition to the prof listed in CA a warmage is proficient with 1 martial weapon.
Spellcasting Int is now the primary stat for spellcasting- synergises with warmage edge and if this is a military feel one should note a person's MIND, not thier charisma is their greatest weapon.
Special- Pierce Dead Zone- at level 17 a Warmage's spells may continue to function within Dead Magic Areas. Any spell a warmage casts within A dead magic area (including Null magic fields and the like) has a 50% chance of working normally.
All other class abilities as normal for a warmage
SPELLS Besides the aforementioned class abilities (which only minorly improve the class-Pierce Dead Zone might be overpowered) The only real problem with the warmage is the crappy spell list.
Therefore, your assistance in creating a rockin' spell list for the warmage is appreciated. Rules. 1. This list must have the SAME number of spells known as the original list. 2. Majority of spells must be offensive in nature. 3. Warrior type casters favor evocation, transmutation and conjuration-focus on those spells. 4. SOME Abjuration is allowed (the class is soldierlike and only a foolish soldier would not have a defensive trick or 2)
Please post suggestions, why it should be on the list and indicate level.
The following post will comprise the list, I'll modify as suggestions are posted. If anyone would like to format the class it would be appreciated.
Cheers.:D

Any optimisation views?
This class could easily benefit from exhalted arcanist, Anima Mage or eldaritch knight, JPM.
Despite the ability of these boards to make x psycho build- is it reasonably balanced compared to a sorc, wiz- given the spell list is fixed (a major drawback of the old list, since sorc, wiz can learn from splat books)
Will this spell list stand up.....

So far, you've got the begingins of a great spell list there.
Since you said you could add a few defensive spells, consider adding Shield to your first level list. in addition to being a good AC buff, you will qualify for the Abjurant Champion PrC, which will further help you defend yourself, as well as offering d10 hit dice and a full BAB for five levels.

It seems like a lot of changing for a class that only needs a slight tweak.
Simply by increasing the number of Advanced Learnings they get(maybe to every 3 or 4 levels) and either changing Advanced Learning to allow evocation spells from any class list or allowing Eclectic Learning(PHB2 variant) to allow any spell from the sorc/wiz list at its proper level should do it.
The problem with redoing the spell list and class features is that it is easy to outclass the sorceror with even small changes. By simply putting Wings of Flurry, Moonbow, Avasculate and Maw of Chaos on the list, you have already addressed the entire Warmage/Goat thread's premise. The only thing offered by the pro-sorceror folks were those spells. You also give a good variety of the "best" spells from each level, things like Haste, Greater Invis, Dispel Magic and summon monster spells.
With that spell list and those class features, why would you ever, ever, ever play a sorceror? -AS-

+1 Ander.
Also, you're giving warmages improved familiar for free. What? Imps and Quasits that can UMD for you? Not broken?
If you're replacing the sorc with the wm you've supplied above, okay. If not, why not? You're destroying any reason to play them with these changes.

I'm going to agree.
Warmage unique class features really top out around 7th-8th. The martial weapon prof and SAD are more than enough to make them playabe ... everyone will PrC out to a Gish class or a spell-list enhancing class anyway.

I agree. INT focused casting would be enough for me, actually.

Thunderlance. My favorite Gish spell short of Wraithstrike. Also...Explosive Runes make great landmines. Strangest of all, adding UMD would double their playability.

Beguiler has shown the list doesn't need to be alterable, just very good at what it does. Why would you ever play a sorcerer over a beguiler if you wanted to be a controller/illusion/enchantment dude? You would'nt.
I am trying to do the same here: Why would you play a sorcerer over a warmage for evoker/smackdown spells? You wouldn't.
