Moved from the Questions thread, sorry LK.

I'm sure the next ten posts will explain what morons we are for thinking we could do something like this, but I'll ask you to consider this first: If you take it as a desired goal to present a smaller, tighter-focused pantheon, it's pretty reasonable to assume that Sehanine is the elven name for Selune, and those two goddesses were always in some way the same being, even though they had separate existences for ages.

Oh no, Mr Baker, this post at least isn't going to suggest there is anything moronic about you all. I will, however suggest that the "desired goal" that you have based this decision is not one that I have much desired. I cannot speak for others. Only myself.

I would also like to point out that it is now official. Not one of my favourite deities has made it through this transition; Mystra, Sehanine and Eilistraee.

So I am not going to be angry, what would be the point?

I shall just be quite quite sad instead."

Not that I expect that Rich will read this thread, but anyway.

I always saw the High Level NPCs as shepherds of the Realms not its defenders. Making sure that not too many sheep were lost as they milled around (as they are wont to do) and bringing on the young'uns into the job. In that way a shepherd never has time to go and hunt down all of the wolves but is pretty dashed effective at keeping them away from the sheep when they rear their heads.

-Yes, the fall-out on this is indeed why I created this thread.

-Personally, I have nothing to say on it. I know I'm not going to be accepting that, being that it does not fit with established continuity, so...

At this moment I would love to have all the money needed to buy the FR IP so I can undo this whole crap.

Fallout may well be the right word.

Personally I now think I know what MarkusTay was talking (at least I think it was Markus). I feel totally disconnected from these Realms right now.

To my knowledge not one of the characters that I have enjoyed reading about over the last couple of years has come through unscathed... and to my knowledge only one of them is still alive at all.

As a novel reader, not an Realms player, I am not sure where they can go from this.

It feels rather as if I had been watching a show on TV and in the space between episodes they killed the old cast, changed things around in the town where it was set and did so with only the briefest of explanations. If "conventional" authors tried it they would, I suspect, be in serious trouble.

I just would like to understand why I am supposed to give a damn about the new characters they will introduce when they will likely end up just like the old ones.

I won't, from this moment on, the $ED FR is on my blacklist and I'm going to be on the HATERS side.

No, I still was hoping for something, but after that last one I'm finaly disconected from it.

THE REALMS ARE DEAD, and nobody can deny.

Exactly. Even more, it's like a TV show without a show runner (the main person who keeps all the writers and producers moving along with the same meta-plot, and the Realms have never had an over-arching meta-plot). The new Realms feels like several DMs got to throw in a few crazy elements they really liked, and there wasn't much of an effort to make sure that all these pieces fit together terribly well.

The entire cast of this show has been killed off, in favor of new characters (and like you said, why should we care about them?) placed in a complete re-tooling of the setting. What's the draw? The clean-slate absence of everything that it once was?

Then, sir, I should consider suing your posting style for libel.

That said, I can't help but also state that I may well stay along for the ride but I shall do so without hope.
