I rebember there is a spell (Ghostly reload) of level 1 from Races of Dragons wich a crossbow reload itself. Do you rebember the crossbow from Van Hellsing movie (the first combact, in the town).

I think a witch hunter could use a repeating crosbow (for example the chinese Chu-ko-nu).

The power of witch hunter could be from the presige class occult slayers (from complete warrior) and witch hunter from Oriental Adventures. In my mind I have the memory of the ancient priest from the a film "chinese ghost story".

So these ideas are a good start I´ll check the Occult Slayer from the Complete Warrior, but as for some sort of conversion I will need the help of those who knows how the system works since I just got my 4E core books, I still have to fill in my own gaps on the new system lol (guess I too used to 3.5 E hehehe) I´ll get to it

PS :
Luis Carlos
1- You speak spanish (I do lol)
2- We can start working on those powers from the occult slayer and the witch hunter from the Oriental Campaign, also we gotta check the official Witch Hunter from the Ravenloft campaign setting cause it is more oriented in flavor.

Let me know

Thanks people

So here is the reason for my interest and devotion to Ravenloft. First of all I guess that I can speak for everybody when if asked

"who´s your favorite dnd character?" the first one that comes into your mind because of all the things you did/ survived with that character. I believe we all have one, cause when a character becomes this in the players mind that sheet becomes more than just numbers lol...

This is Ishan McKoull my "legendary" Witch Hunter, I made it in 2nd edition ravenloft and then in 3E thanks to S&S

This is my first post on this forum ever, Hi everyone.

I've been talking with Ishan about the Witch Hunter Paragon Path, and I agree almost completely that it should be based on a Ranger Heroic Tier core class.

About the crossbow vs flintlock vs guns issue, I'm sure it will be solved.

Well after "talking" with some people over the questions and answers threads of 4E in general, the Ranger is the best choice for the Witch Hunter paragon path since its range powers can be used for the crossbow/ flintlock gun as well.

So we got that aspect covered so far, and there is some especulation that the Quick Draw feat might make the reloading more quick, I think reducing the action time, again I´m not much of rules guy myself in the case of making new powers I can give ideas as to how the power works but I´m blind as a bat if that power is too powerful or too lame. lol

Thanks people...

I did a 4e update of Ravenloft (found on the Fraternity of Shadows website). For the Witch Hunter I gave it the name change of Monster Hunter and made it a martial power paragon path.
This opens it up to rangers & rogues (the classic crossbow stakers) but also warlords and the like.

Here's the rest:
Monster Hunter
“It is my chosen prey: I have read libraries dedicated to their abilities and the hunt. I am a master of their death.”

Prerequisite: Martial power source, training in one knowledge skill

A single foe haunts you, driving you to focus on this single threat above all others. While skilled in the hunt, you are a master when it comes to this threat.

Monster Hunter Features
Enmity (11th level):
Choose one of the following origins: aberrant, elemental, fey, immortal, natural, or shadow. When you use an action point to take a second action and face a creature of this origin, roll your attack twice and use the higher result.
Knowledgeable (11th level): You gain a +2 bonus to Perception, Insight and Monster Knowledge skill checks against your enmity origin.
Hunted (16th level): Choose one of the following keywords: angel, aquatic, construct, demon, devil, ooze, plant, spider, shapechanger, or undead. You deal extra damage equal to your level plus your Intelligence modifier against creatures of the chosen type.

Monster Hunter Exploits

Precision Strike Monster Hunter Attack 11
Through experience you know where to hit.
Encounter * Martial, Weapon
Standard action
Melee
weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Strength +2 vs Reflex
Hit: 2[W] + Strength.
Special: If the target is of your enmity origin the attack ignores resistance and the target cannot regenerate on its next turn.

Familiar Resistance
Monster Hunter Utility 12

You know how to avoid the worst.
Daily * Martial
Immediate Reaction
Personal
Trigger:
You suffer an effect that a saving throw will end.
Effect: You make an immediate saving throw with a +5 power bonus.
Special: If the triggering effect was inflicted by a creature of your enmity origin, you gain a +2 power bonus to all defences until the end your next turn.

Favoured Foe
Monster Hunter Attack 20

You know how to hurt them the most.
Daily * Martial
Standard action
Melee
weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Strength vs AC
Hit: 4[W] + Strength modifier
Miss: Half damage.
Special: If the target is of your enmity origin you deal an extra 1[W] damage. If the target has your hunted keyword you deal an extra 1[W] damage. This bonus damage stacks if both apply.

Wow!

The_Jester your my best friend now lol hahaha thanks brother this is what I was trying to get at. But how about this power "Precision Strike Monster Hunter Attack" it can also be applied to range attack using dex right. I think your paragon path is really good brother.

Lets see what else we can come up with hehehe

That is a very, very good idea. It should be melee OR ranged and str OR dex. That is totally being changed for the next revision.

I also forget to add one more thing/ idea, we seem to have been missing, using your Monster Hunter I recalled that the basic power of a Witch Hunter is the "useful" Turn Undead.

I don´t know if any of the multiclassing feats might allow the Ranger to be able to use this ability (Turn Undead) or It can be included in the Paragon Path features.

Ideas....?

Thanks

It´s a great picture, Ishan wh.

My idea of witch hunter is a warrior with some guns and torchs who is protected by his faith againts mind-affecting effects from enemy spellcasters.

Does anybody know "Solomon Kane"? The perfect witch hunter!!

Hey people sorry I have been busy lately, this days are tough, holidays and all... well how is our search for the Witch Hunter going, I think that we are forgeting of the Turn Undead, wich leads me to my next doubt, can the cleric multiclass feats allow a ranger/witch hunter to have access to the turn undead power.

Let me know on this subject,

Thank you all who have supported this thread.

PS:
I´ll be posting a short tale on the thread of doveloft, as my way to support the idea of that thread. Hope you can check it out.
