No, dragonkin (from Monsters of Faerun) aren't the same as dragonborn. They're large, they have wings, they don't have a breath weapon, and they're native to Faerun, having been present in the world before the Spellplague. Dragonborn are medium, not winged, have a breath weapon, and originally hail from Abeir, from whence they came about 100 years ago. Now, that said: There's a real limit to the number of dragon-man races we want running around in the world at the same time. So nothing in the FRPG or FRCG mentions the dragonkin. They weren't all that important before, and there wasn't any real reason to talk about them in the new setting, so why go out of our way to confuse folks? RE: the eladrin, take a look at the 4th Edition Monster Manual. Creatures like the ghaele, the bralani, and the other varieties of the old celestial race are all considered to be part of the "high elf" eladrin race -- although heavy hitters like the ghaele are probably very high-ranking nobles or champions.
Are dragonborn just going to be dragonkin? The only difference I see is that the women have boobs. But you seem to write about them as if they're a new race. If so, how do they relate to dragonkin?
Are the 4e gnomes just going to be FR forest gnomes (thats what they seem to be, with small changes)
and what exactly happened to the shapeshifting celestials called eladrin. Now that eladrin are a new race of teleporting fey, are they called something else now?
Will the large number of tieflings be explained in the frcg?
---------------------------------------------------
Just somehting I would like to note. In 3e/3.5 there were many areas which I wanted an updated supplement on that never came. The solution was for me to convert 2e FR books to 3e so I could play in those regions. (converted the mechanics to 3e).
What I'm saying is, there are a number of older books, that I would pay for a new version of. And I don't mean rewrite all of it, I mean take the 2e book, put whatever information is necessary to make it 100 years in the future, and sell it to me. Out of print books are hard to find. And I want things like a whole book on Menzoberranzan, or a book on Myth Drannor, etc.
I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's worth looking into. But seriously, most of them are so hard to find, and a whole new book isnt necessary(or any more useful), I'd even go as far as to say it would be a waste of effort to do the whole book from scratch. I just want an updated version of the hard to find out of print books. You guys would cut production time to less than half :P
In the Myth Drannor book, provide the timeline, everything that has happened since the 2e Myth Drannor book as well, and then re-stat any applicable monsters into 4e. The quests that were there, I dont care one way or the other, they could be dropped or kept, or replaced. I just want totally updated fluff. ------------------------------------------ Oh. Campaign Setting: Please provide the background on why different things happen. For instance, the drow magic improvement with 3e (not destroyed by sunlight) wasnt listed in the FRCS, or any other sourcebook we could think of that it should have been in. We ended up ignoring it until I accidentally stumbled onto the novel that contained the background reason why. The background reasons need to be in the frcs. There are people who want to know why. For instance, (not that I necessarily expect the answer here) why do dwarves no longer have darkvision? that is something I would look for in the FRCG/FRCS. The why is often as or more important than the what. If the what doesnt have a reason why, myself and the players I game with often find it flavour breaking to use the new rule. New rules are fine, but we need to know what is causing them (not just make something up). Getting rid of drow heatvision, just made sense, because they didnt have heatvision really anyways. They couldnt track people like heatvision would have allowed them to, and if i recall correctly, they could see inanimate objects with no heat, and lizards.
---------------------------------------------- Obviously I can't dictate the new FR, but these are concerns that came up in the past, as well as questions I have. ----------------------------------------------
Oh. this is my first post on the WTC boards. Normally I haunt ENWorld, and I used to haunt Candlekeep.

The swordmage class is in the FR Player's Guide. Bard you'll see in PH 2. However, I'd *hope* that an extensive and playable bard preview will hit DDi sometime in the next couple of months.
Question: I don't know if this has been asked before, but what 'core' classes will be included in the FRCG or Player's Guide?
I don't care about new classes - a big part of my decision on what to run soon hinges on when I can get my hands on the Monk and Bard classes. I can live without Monks for awhile (my personal favorite, though), but I really can't see being able to run an FR game without Bards.
Unless you guys decided to ditch the Harpers, as well, which you say you haven't.
Just a shot in the dark, here, but I'm not seeing any other logical reason for lowering the water-level in the Inner Sea ACCEPT to expose the ruins of Jhaadath, and all the 'long lost' psionic goodies buried therein.
Just a hunch, mind you.

Rich,
Two quick yes/no questions:
1) Will Mask survive into 1479 D.R.? 2) Will Eltab (Demon Lord) be mentioned in the 4e FRCG?
Thank you!

Rich,
Can you share any tidbits on possible developments in the Border Kingdoms post-Spellplague?

This is the third time this question has come up, so I think he either doesn't know (doubtful), or he is avoiding it for whatever reason (probably wants to keep a few things secret for the Gencon release).
