Yup, he looked like a Cyclops, and Corellon had nothing to do with that.

The Cyclopses, for their part, worshipped a two-eyed god...

Go figure...

That means the canon lore concerning the Seldarine is different in GH, but then again, it always was - Lolth was part of the Pantheon, and there was only Four members, one for each subrace (Sashelas and Rillifane).

Hmmmm... sounds like 4e, or the latest DotU.

Rich,

Why not have the best of both worlds?

You, Mearls and Andy (for instance) could each come up with a short (say, 10-page) guide to your versions of the Points of Light setting, and they could be made available through DI, Dragon or Dungeon. That way you can give DMs three (still sketchy) settings to build on, and you wouldn't be crystallizing the core setting (since you have 3 versions of it). Kinda like "designers' homebrews".

Consider me among those who like this idea, or something similar.

OK, now I have yet another question!

Remember when 3E was just coming out and it was emphasized that a Rogue (which had a name change from "Thief") did NOT necessarily have to be a lying, thieving, trouble-making scoundrel? The rogue could be a diplomat, for example, or even someone who was specialized at catching thieves. I liked that, because it expanded the perceived role of the rogue class.

So, when I was reading the rogue section of Races and Classes, I was rather disappointed to find little (if any!) mention of rogues who weren't thieves or trouble-makers. The article, as I recall it, focused solely on rogues stealing, getting into trouble, and generally being untrustworthy. Now don't get me wrong, like many people I enjoy playing those types of characters, and I'm aware that the abilities of the rogue are pretty well-tailored for the shadiest characters. But do rogues ALL have to be thieves and ne'er-do-wells? I don't think so, and I was wondering if 4E rogues are consciously being moved away from the 3E design principle of "not all Rogues are Thieves". Or, did the Rogue article simply not give us the full picture of things?

Hi, Dark Wizard. I'm not sure about PBEM. Most of our work on the virtual gaming table is really oriented toward "live" play -- we're building tools like chat channels to support that. But I'm not really the guy to ask about that. Chris Perkins could tell you more.

Thanks for the answer, Rich.
I figured live play would be the standard, I guess pbem is a bit outdated in most regards. However, it's sometimes hard to get together at the same time (or for a good chunk of time), even over the internet. A "pause and continue" system in addition to live play might help keep things rolling even on off time.

Even at a reduced pace games run all the time - all day, every day. Most Instant Messengers have similar features. I used to play in a number of PBEMs up until a few years ago when it seemed the formerly massive number of them dwindled a bit (maybe I just can't find them anymore). I was hoping D&DI would provide a good, well organized, official replacement for the games I played that were strung together through various email lists and lots of notes on my hard drive.

PBeM 2.0 : A good place to look for Play by Email or Play by Post/Forum D&D games. Or you could start your own and use it to gather players from all over the world.

Question for Rich. We've heard that Drow will be a fleshed out player race in the Forgotten Realms Player Guide. Will there be any other fully fleshed out PC races in the FRPG? For example, will Genasi have racial write-ups? How about Aasimar? Will any other race aside from them have PC write-ups? Thanks.

We've got a new typing system, but I won't go into detail yet. I don't want to scoop some of our Monster Manual preview material.

One thing I will say: In general, we want more powers to affect more creatures. Saying that a PC race (or a bipedal, intelligent monster, for that matter) isn't a "person" because of some pretty arcane typing rules is something we're moving away from.

Since the Karsmeister answered that one, I have another...

Question:
Are creature types going to remain mostly unchanged in 4e, or will there be some new system in place form determining what effects who?

I ask this because Tieflings were considered Outsiders in 3e, but their new incarnation makes them out to be more 'Monstrous Humanoid'.

Yes, there's another PC race fleshed-out in the FRPG. It'll have drow and Race X with full PH-style writeups.

I think the rogue article didn't give you the full picture of things. We're pretty happy with the idea that "rogue" might mean more than "thief," and we haven't consciously set out to change that. We might have simply fallen into old habits when writing that one article.

-Rich, I've asked this before, but I'll ask again, since it was glossed over last time. Many of the changes being made to the setting are being made with the claim that the 'general community/fanbase agrees'. For example, Chris Perkins says, "However, there are some parts of the world that aren't quite so beloved and don't have much happening in or around them. Many of these areas are likely to undergo some level of change."

-How are these claims quantified? I've been playing D&D for about six or seven years now, and I've been an active member of these boards for about the same amount of time. I have yet to be a part of, or even hear a mention of, any kind of information gathering process- polls, surveys, and so on. To do market research on the Forgotten Realms, one would, obviously, need the feedback of a Forgotten Realms fan. Where better to find Forgotten Realms fans than on the official Wizards of the Coast message boards. However, again, I have yet to even see any kind of feedback gathering mechanism, asides for the sales of sourcebooks- most of which do not deal with the 'neglected' areas in question, anyway.

-I thank you for your response ahead of time.
