How long has this been going on? I just subscribed and a fresh install on two seperate machines fail in the same way. I'm pissed that I purchased a year's worth.
I realize software is hard but for ****-sake.
Support is practically useless. They can't just tell me it's a known issue?
Both machines are Windows 7 64-bit.

I have not heard back either, except for intial response and the downloadable instruction set.
Look, the program is based on windows xp sp2 and the lastest incantation is from Apr 2009. I am going to ask if they couls just send me a whole version that would bypass the updater problem.

My problem:
When I start the Character Builder, the splash screen shows, then an error window pops up instantly, saying "CharacterBuilderUpdater has encountered a user-defined breakpoint."
I've tried running other .exes in the WotC folder, I've run as administrator, I've installed as administrator, I've opened permissions, I've reinstalled about six times.
My OS:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit edition with .NET framework 4.0
Pleeease help. I'm so sad without my character builder. ): It used to work before, I don't know why it would all of a sudden not work.

CB doesn't work with .NET 4.0, you need to roll back to 3.5. It's in the FAQ.

I've been chatting with tech support for the last week at least.
Just received a response today from the help folks:
"It looks like there may have been a corrupt file in the download. We discovered this and recommend that you attempt the download again as we fixed this file. Please let me know if you need anymore help!"
I just sucessfully installed and updated Adventure Tools!

Installed character builder, never got it o update, then I saw this post, thought it might be a bug in the program, so uninstalled the builder, got a new file trying it to install, and, what message, server inaccessible. This is going on for days now. Can the server for installing the old builder be online, and not just for a few hours (whenever that might be) per day

I am having issues getting the update on a new PC. The download stalls part way. When I try to cancel, I get a message that the server is unavailable. It seems WotC is preventing me from getting the last update for the PC version.

It will still be an issue. People will still not be able to use the CB while offline.
