Thanks for your timely response, Architect.
As I stated before, when I open RegEdit, there is no "Wizards of the Coast" folder located under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\." Whether I have the application installed or uninstalled, the key never appears. So I cannot execute the second set of steps you mentioned, unless there's something I'm totally missing. For those of you who had similar problems as myself, I finally fixed it. It required me to use my Windows XP CD to do a Repair Install. I'm assuming that some of my system files were corrupt/missing. Once I went through the repair, the Wizards folder started appearing in my registry after installing the Character builder and I was able to update it just fine. Good luck to everyone else trying to get theirs to work.

I posted this problem in this thread, but it was suggested that I post it here as well. Exact problem that stops you from updating to or running full version:I've been using the Character Builder since it was released, and it's worked fine all this time. Until a couple of weeks ago, when it suddenly started crashing on startup. It gets to the update screen, I click "Launch Character Builder", and a few seconds later it crashes: Error
Show
The odd part is, if I keep trying it, the program will eventually work. I may have to try 20 times, but eventually it will load up. So whatever causes it to crash isn't making it impossible to run. I don't think I made any changes to my computer settings at that time. However, the problem started shortly after I started playing with the new "Journal" feature, as well as the "Campaign Settings" tab. On the theory that I had somehow corrupted some of the character files, I have tried removing all the characters from the ddi folder. It still crashes just as often with no saved characters. Windows Operating System:Vista 32-bit Machine Type (PC, VM on Mac, VM on unix etc):PC User mode when running installer (admin, guest etc):Admin User mode when running Character Builder:Admin Changes to default options when installing (ie different location):I always keep the default settings. .NET 3.5 SP1 preinstalled or done as part of install:Installed before installing CB Beta installed at some point:Yes Beta uninstalled before installing release version:Yes Anything you think might be unusual about your environment (Active VPN, dial up, behind corporate firewall, etc)Nothing I can think of.

I have tried to install on two computers.
Exact problem that stops you from updating to or running full version: Both times, "Error 1606. Could not access network location \\.PSF\Home\Documents"
Windows Operating System: Machine Type (PC, VM on Mac, VM on unix etc): 1 Mac with Parallels Windows XP sp3, 1 PC with Windows XP sp3
User mode when running installer (admin, guest etc): Default?
User mode when running Character Builder: Won't run
Changes to default options when installing (ie different location): None
.NET 3.5 SP1 preinstalled or done as part of install: Preinstalled
Beta installed at some point: no
Beta uninstalled before installing release version: no
Anything you think might be unusual about your environment (Active VPN, dial up, behind corporate firewall, etc) Nothing.
I fail to see how software that should be able to run on a computer from 1985 needs so many resources and won't even bloody install, but hey.
