Download was a little choppy, but I finally got it to install. Then I get this:
The installation of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (Web Download) appears to have failed. Do you want to continue the installation?[/quote] After I tried to re-download the missing part, it hangs at 100% and won't move past.
Edit: Restarted the PC, started download again, still hanging. Tried letting it sit, and nothing.

This has already been answered in the officail installation issues discussion thread that I pointed to upthread.
According to WotC staff, the installation of the net framework is fairly quicjk for the first 99.5 % of the installation, but then takes a long time for the last 0.5%. They recommend waiting a good 30-45 minutes before killing the process.
You might also try getting it (.net framwework) directly from MS. Again, the link can be found in the Character Builder Beta Forum.

Come on WotC. Make this work. It is getting hard out there for those of us that are trying to convince others that despite your track record with software that the DDI tools are going to be cool.
I have 64 bit Vista with the right service pack. I have tried every permutation recommended on this thread. It blows up whenever I try to open it.
Someone with a WotC pay check, please give us a fix.
The Wiesbaden character sheet is someone's hobby, and it is kicking your butt.

I just spoke to Solice, and she told me that the DDI programmers are currenly working on the 64-bit Vista problem that is preventing you (64-bit users) from installing and using the Character Builder.

I've got it installed (at least the first part) and when I open it to check it out I am getting Unable to connect to the Network please try again later. I am running vista home basic sp1 with .Net3.5 SP1 installed. This could be caused by my work network *shakes fist at powers that be who expect me to work when they're paying me* so I will attempt again once I get home. I suppose it could also be from a general rush to get it downloaded and installed as well (hope we didn't crash something on the WOTC end).

For me the installer just hangs at the splash screen saying "Initializing" in the status window, and then eventually timing out with "Unable to connect to the Network. Please try again later".
I'm behind a firewall that uses an http proxy, so I'm guessing that's the problem. Is there a way to configure the network settings of the character builder?

The way Microsoft's install looks it finishes the first 99.9% quickly, and then spends 1/2 hour or more on that last 0.5%. It might look like it's stalled, but just let it keep running. Thanks for the info. I waited and it eventually finished, and I let it reboot my computer.
Unfortunately when I booted back up, it couldn't find my profile (XP SP3), and loaded a default.
Crossing my fingers, I shut down entirely, then started up again, and this time it found and loaded my profile, and the Character Builder install continued from where it had left off in installing the .Net framework.
Of course, it was at this point in the process I got the warning screen that it might need to load the framework, and that this may take a considerable amount of time. if there is a way to put this BEFORE the .net download is initiated, I think things will go much smoother. If you can't interrupt the process that discovers if .Net is needed, then place a warning on the fancy splash screen that displays when you download the Character Builder components (ie, run the DDI_CB-Beta.exe).
But the install went smoothly from this point and the Builder came up fine. I did a test autobuild (nice feature!) of a dopplganger wizard and will try it more extensively for my first session this Friday.
Thanks!

Well I'm on Windows XP and I'm having issues, the download worked fine, but I wasn't able to open the application after installation. I uninstalled and installed it again, but again, no go.

I had some install problems with .Net framework but installed it separately from the link in this thread. The install of CB went fine with no errors. But when I launch the application I get the splash screen and then this error I've tried uninstalling and installing twice with reboots and still no luck. Windows XP SP3 .Net 3.5 SP1
