We have updated our build to include a possible correction for the issues being experienced by our Vista 64-bit users.  To download this new build please do the following:

•    Remove the old build by using the add or remove tool in your control panel.
•    If you don’t already have .NET 3.5 SP1, installing it before you download the beta may save you time during the installation process. You can download it directly from Microsoft here.
•    Please make sure that you are up to date with all current Windows Updates!
•    Reboot your machine.
•    Download the new build by following the link found here. Make sure your logged in so the link will be visible to you!

If you have any issues with this fix, please let us know in this thread.

For the technically minded, one of the things that's happening here is that if you have Windows Update turned on, and it has started installation of updates and is waiting for you to reboot before it continues then you can't start your .Net install until after you reboot and finish those installs.

In general you should be ok if you do these steps:

* reboot, and let windows update finish anything it had pending
* uninstall your previous .net 3.5 failed installation
* install .net 3.5 SP1 from Microsoft
* uninstall your previous Character Builder installation
* download our new 32bit and 64bit friendly Character Builder installer
* install the Character Builder Beta

You might be able to skip some of the above steps if you know what you're doing, but it's safer if you do them all.

For most people you can probably just get away with:
* download our new 32bit and 64bit friendly Character Builder installer
* install the Character Builder Beta, which will include .Net 3.5 SP1

Excellent, works great. Thanks

You might want to consider updating the CB page on D&Di and http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dn … uilderinfo to clarify that the CB now works on vista as these pages still suggest otherwise.

Character Builder now starts up just fine on my Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) system. This was a very rapid fix. My kudos to the dev team.

I installed .NET 3.5 SP1 first, but didn't reboot (oops). When I installed the latest CB beta, it tried to install .NET 3.5SP1 again.

Like I've previously reported, it got "stuck" at the end of the install, because it popped the "you need to reboot" dialog box under the installer window. Knowing to look for this, I slid windows around, and clicked "restart".

After rebooting, I'm up and running perfectly on Vista Business x64!

Thanks!

Tim
