1.  Flavor Text - Most of my gaming group uses the CB exclusively for designing characters.  The lack of flavor text on the power cards sometimes takes a little bit of the role playing out of combat when players want to actually describe their character's actions.  Some of the powers just don't have an obvious effect.

2.  Houserules - I'm with the lot that the houserules need to be mechanically useful.

3.  Sheet Customization - I'd like to be able to modify the character sheet aesthetic a bit.  Not a fan of the big, dark logo at the top.

4.  Single-item Printing -  It would be nice to be able to print just a certain power, skill, power card, race, or class in a nice format.  Currently, it can be done via copy/paste, but that is less than ideal.

I dunno, that's all I can think of at the moment.

1. Flavor Text.

With this goes the ability to remove the retarded reminder text about what the power does at level 21.  The PCs I generally make are 1-5, that is totally unnecessary text that could be taken up by cool flavor text.  The CB should "know" I don't need it till that level.

2. More ability to mess with the character sheet.

I don't want to print that giant black ink hog at the top of the sheet every time.
If I want to edit a power card I should be able to.

If these two were done, I'd be pretty happy.

Fix the wasted ink on the character sheet. It is a simple fix, I know it, my friends in the software publishing business know it, you know it. Tell/show the intern how to update and change the thick black lines all over the character sheet into a light grey scale. Come back in 10 minutes and check intern's work. Done... If you want to be fancy and involve a programer for a few minutes, make the new page and the old page both an option...

Tell us the software you use for the character builder and we'll do the script changes for you... Fix the wasted ink, people have been asking for almost a year.

Only two suggestions at the moment:

1. The Attack workspace is great, except there's no way of showing what the Attack bonus is VS on the first page.  It would be better if the Attack Workspace showed the Attack bonus and then the Defense that it's against (AC, Reflex, Will, Fort, etc) so that we can see this information on the first page.  The Basic Attack  section shows this, but you can't put any of your powers into this field.

2. There appears to be no way of entering custom text into the Character description fields that appear by default on the second page (Personality Traits, Mannerisms and Appearance, etc).

Have a look in the character builder under "manage->information." Any text you rattle in there ends up on page 2 of the character sheet.

Cheers,

Ash

PS: If you can't find it reply to this post and I'll stick some more detailed instructions in.

#1 top request from me concerning the Character Builder is the option to NOT have power and item CARDS.  Instead, have the powers and items listed like so:

3c6e2cd2c6d4e9fc477a9b10dd112f52.gif?v=139639

Note that all of the powers for my paragon level character fit neatly on one page and I still have room for some magic item descriptions.  If you wanted to make 1 column or 3 columns instead of 2, that is fine, too, but be careful about a lot of big filled areas.  I took out the fluff text and put the attack and damage in based on the primary weapon(s) of the character, also.  Save a tree.

#2 request is an option in Character Builder that allows me to conserve a bit of black ink but still work for the character sheet.  Basically, change all the solid black boxes with white letters to white boxes with black outlines and black letters.  The following is an example:

 eafdc1c3bded595f74bc3e1a189fc3af.gif?v=156600

#3 request for the Character Builder is to get all of the healing added in.  If my character has the Healer's Implement feat, a +4 magic holy symbol, a +2 mace of healing, and paragon level gloves of the healer, add all of the healing plusses up and put it on the Healing Word, Healing Strike, etc. power descriptions (cards or whatever).  It already adds the Wisdom mod and apparently one of the item mods but nothing else.

#4 request is - If my character is 11th level, why can't the powers use the level related information?  Make it so that the damage on "Turn Undead" is 2d10 when the character is 5th level, and higher when appropriate.  Ranges should do the same (i.e. Healing Word's "Close burst 5 (10 at 11th level, 15 at 21st level)" should just be "Close burst 10" if the character is 11th level).  You might argue that the attack and damage are correct when listed for the specific weapon or implement but those do not include the ranges.

#5 request - Some requests have been out there for quite a while (like adding up the healing correctly).  I use CB to build and level my characters.  If I can't trust it to do things right, then how good of a tool is it?  Ones characters are only as good as the tools used to make them.  If the CB programmers are already overloaded, get them some help so that it is kept up to date and works correctly.

I will go on record as saying that the CB is a good tool.  It just needs to be a little bit better.  Perhaps I'm spoiled by the character making products that were out before (like for 3e).  But I think the CB is worth the effort.  Thanks for listening to my 2 cents.

1. Better Houserule/Homebrew support. I don't use the Core Pantheon, so I'd like my clerics to be able to choose the Domains they have access to. I'd like to be able to have the custom items I make for my players be mechanically relevant on their sheets, and I don't want them to have to jump through hoops when I implement the "Rewards-based campaign" model mentioned in the DMG 2.

2. Less ink usage. We have to reprint sheets fiarly often, and it costs a lot to do. Please, please, please adopt a standard of black text and white boxes, instead of the current system. It prints up clearer, and wastes less ink.

3. Option for non card-based power list.

Can't think of any others at the moment.

What I find most frustrating about 4E is that I can see it includes the D&D game I've always wanted to play, but the game is so lathered in tatical combat rules that I have thus far been unable to coax the game I want out.

  1. Including flavour text on power cards
  2. Removing redundant higher-level info from power cards

That's it, I can cope with the bugs wherein characters appear to be duplicated and then deleting one deletes both. I can cope with the wasted ink and the american paper sizes. All I want is flavour text where the redundant info is. Please and thanks!
