So, yes, an explanation was issued and I chose my words as poorly as the official explainers did. *nods* Fair enough (on both counts, FYI - amazon.com is a particular thorn in my FLGS's side).

I feel deceived by WotC. They were talking all about this DDI and releasing the books as PDFs for fourth edition. I then waited to see if it was going to be DRM free (If anybody tells you that you can load and use your books after buying a new computer and the DRM authentication server is no longer supported, then they are lying to you). When they announced that The PDFs were going to be DRM free I decided to buy in to fourth edition. I refuse to by print books as the space they take up is unacceptable for me. Plus they are quite 13th century. Now the game is not available in the format that they said I would be able to purchase them in. Within a couple days after they made that announcement I canceled my DDI subscription and have lacked any desire to even download any more magazine PDFs out of disgust. I have not even been checking the forums until today to see if anything has happened. What I have seen is that they are trying to reimage the DDI to avert attention to the failure that it has become. Still nobody really knows what is happening. The people who don't mind what is happening are probably the people who were not really interested in the digital side of things anyway. The people who were really interested in the digital side of things are very disgusted. If WotC does rerelease the books in DRM free PDFs, I will wait until they have enough core books available that I deem a minimum need and purchase them all at that time. I no longer have any trust in this company. My trust was greatly betrayed as I see I have bought 17 books and they have said too bad sucker.

I think a possible idea would be a 30 day cooldown between the paper copy being released and the PDF version being released. After 30 days there are pirated copies available so they aren't making the piracy easier by handing out PDF to distribute. But at the same time, those who wish to buy PDFs for the most part can, if not immediately.

Thing is WOTC are actually now HURTING their sales.
They claim that the pirating hit's their sales etc etc etc etc however I know for a fact that there are some people out there who will download a pirated PDF have a look at it and then go out and buy the book if they like what they have read.
Why? Because a book can be taken to bed and read etc etc a lot easier then a PDF and Laptop.
Also lets look at the other companies MGP, Catalyst, WW etc are all publishing electronically.. there stuff is also all 'pirated' just like wotc's D&D stuff was and still is.. several of these companies have pointed out it does make them a profit because it gets people who normally would not ever look at their books to look at them.
Plus Btech is still going strong dispite if you hunt around every book and i mean EVERY book being pirated.
What they could do is what they said they where going to do originally.. have a number in our hard copy books that we enter and we get the PDF for free... instead we have to buy the damned book twice and that I think is honestly where they get a lot of their 'piracy'.. because WHY should I have to pay 60$ for a hard copy book then $40 or so for a PDF of the SAME book.

Wow sucks to be you!
I buy my books off amazon and they only cost $20-$25 each. And I don't know where you got $60 bucks cause I recall even when 4e first came out I bought the bundle (PHB, DMG, MM1) on amazon. I don't recall what I paid but I know it wasn't over $100.
EDIT: It cost more for 2 people to go to the movie theater then to buy one book.

And I don't know where you got $60 bucks... Maybe he lives somewhere that doesn't use the US dollar? Australia or Canada, for example.

Maybe he lives somewhere that doesn't use the US dollar? Australia or Canada, for example. Australia to be exact.. and even WHEN our dollar was at .96 usd the books STILL cost 60$ a book. PDF's where cheaper because we where using the USD to buy them through Drivethrurpg but hard cover isn't.
As for color printers: Yes people do have them but honestly the books are bound and don't have you having to use a binder that is twice as thick.
What ***** me is the fact that some people like mr Pyromancer2k think that the US is the ONLY place that has D&D or Conventions or the like.. sorry, Europe, Aisa and Australia and NZ all have D&D and we all Have conventions etc etc ie it's as BIG here as it is over there go look at GenCon OZ or CanCon or the like..
WOTCs not stopping piracy there just hurting legitiment customers in their attempt to punish the 'few'
and to give you an idea of the prices:
PHB, MM, DMG, PHB2 - 59.95$ FRCS, FRPG - 59.95 Modules - 39.95 (on average) Martial Power, Etc - 49.95ish
now given i have most of the boooks that's well over 500$ for D&D books even at the WORST conversion wotc is still making a mint off their oversea's customers above what they are in the US which is BS especially given they have publishing places in many of the actual nations they are charging a mint at.. and if they don't they certainly aren't paying an extra 10 - 20 $ import duty.

I don't think the US is the only place that has D&D. What I assumed was that the prices are the same. Sure they might be in different currency but given a comparable exchange rate it would be the same. I've ordered stuff online before from companies in other countries and done the currency exchange but other then international shipping cost the item didn't cost more.
BTW what is it with Australia? I've heard video games cost a lot more there too.

Books, DVD's, Games tend to be even with conversion etc taken into account anywhere from 15 - 100% more expensive.. examples a Xbox 360 game is likely to cost me 99 - 120$ brand new.. dvd's 25 - 40 dollars, novels, take the price in US and double it and you normally get the AUD price

Not allowing the sale of books in PDF form does not eliminate the demand for the PDFs. I personally loved getting books in PDF as I could carry a whole set with me and have it weigh less than an ounce.
My demand for these PDFs is still here though, and so I will find a way to get them whether it be through an online store or not.
