I see the kids/work reason posted lots of time.
Outside of having to travel to a friends house, how is the VTT going to make more time that you already don't have? How is the VTT going deal with your work or kids?
It's not.
Having, like many people here, played MMO's it's pretty common on what it's like playing with someone that has kids. It's they are AFK to much, dealing with their kids.
I can only imagine that will get worse with the VTT, because it's not like a computer run monster which is going to attack whether you are at the keyboard or not. Well I'm glad you seem to know exactly how things go at my house. Not sure how you handle your kids, but mine are in bed by 8pm. The pick up games at the LGS start around 6pm. 6-8pm is prime after dinner play with the kids & housework time. It would be nice to have been able to pick up VTT games after 9-10pm.
And as for the VTT being your best chance to play 4E without finding another group. Bull, because there are plenty of options for online game tables and such. You aren't without options to play 4E online without having to find a group.
What I will accept is that the VTT looked really cool and seemed like it would be the best one out there! I'm disappointed, because it looked like having the ability to really make the game come alive visually. As I said before, I'm aware of this argument and you answered it nicely with your follow up sentence.
Please understand as I have said before my main issue is not with how W0TC handled things.
But I haven't translated my disappointment into false accusations at a company, in a childish fit. It's with statements like this one.
I haven't once said W0TC were liars or accused them of false advertising.

Sorry Dane, you're wrong on this one.
As a parent with 2 young kids being able to play online DOES give me time that I wouldn't otherwise have.
This of this, if I'm going to go to the local game club, they start the games around 6pm and end at 10pm That's a time frame that I need to be at home getting the kids ready for bed and eating dinner. If my wife needs to be out of the house for a while that means that I can't leave at all and gaming is out of the question. However I can sit at my computer downstairs while my kids are sleeping and still be there if they need me. If I find an online game that starts at 8pm I can playing knowing that my kids are safe in bed without them interrupting me.
If, and thats a big if, I go AFK, I'd want to be gaming with a mature group that understands that personal issues come up from time to time which really doesn't fit the typical gaming club groups I've played with (ie, mostly college kids that have no concept of what its like to have kids)
EDIT: gabe1k saw your post after I posted mine... glad to see I'm not alone.

It is quite clear that for some people, the problems that WotC has had getting the Digital tools that were originally announced for DDI programmed and out of the door is a big reason for their disappointment with DDI, 4E and WotC. For other people, they look at the problems as no big deal, and are content with the way that WotC has proceeded with the rollout of DDI tools and their plan going forward. Those points of view, in and of themselves, is not the problem. Not for me, not for CM, nor for WotC. They knew that changing the manner of tool rollout would anger some people, but they made the decision that, in the long run, the change was a better fit for their abilities. Discussion of this is (usually) friendly and good-natured. Problems arise when people claim a moral high ground and state that all other opinions are invalid or false. That their interpretation of how things are (or should be) is the one true way to look at things. No good ever comes of framing a discussion in those terms. Unfortunately, some of the recent posts in this thread are starting to veer towards that type of "discussion".[1] This forum very rarely (as compared to other forums) sees the presence of ORCs, and I would really, really like to keep it that way. So please keep all discussion polite. [1]And no, I don't care who started it. It doesn't work with my kids, it won't work here.

Dane, it's really common sense...
I can't play D&D but every few months because my gaming group is spread around a three state area and we all have busy professional/personal lives. It is literally takes some people hours to travel to a game, and getting everyone to be able to schedule an ENTIRE day off at the same time can be difficult.
However, with the VTT, it could have been as simple as, "hey guys, can everyone spare a 3-4 hours every Wednesday night?'
Think about it a little bit Dane.
And as you have said many times, there are many free VTT systems out there for us to use, and now we have started. We converted to 4th edition for the VTT and online applications that were said would be available. No sense in spending money of 4th edition books or DDI when we have a complete 3.5 ruleset that we can do all the same stuff with. Now we don't have to spend any more money on WotC products and will not need to purchase DDI. If enough people stop their subscriptions, WotC will have to make some serious changes or DDI will cease to exist.

gabe1k if you get PM's like that, just take a screen shot and report it to the [s]WizO's ORC's (with the screen shot included). Posting it and responding does little good.

Thanks seTiny. Not sure if he needs to be reported. I just wanted him to calm down a bit. I was getting tired of the insults and him not getting called out for it.
Sorry to derail the thread.

The ad at the back of my PHB says "And, with D&DI, you can take your game online, so you can play with friends anywhere - wherever they live, wherever you go."
Now apparently the term "false advertising" has specific legal definition that doesn't apply here, so what term would apply? "Mistaken advertising"? "Optimistic advertising"?
Whatever the correct terminology, I know the result. I won't believe anything Wizards says about it's digital products until I can actually see it/download it for myself. They have no credibility to me.

Whatever the correct terminology, I know the result. I won't believe anything Wizards says about it's digital products until I can actually see it/download it for myself. They have no credibility to me. It also says, go online for more information. And that information was "We are sorry, it's not ready. We are going to give what we currently have away for free."
Which was Dungeon and Dragon magazine. Then they came and said, we are not sure when we will have it out. However, we are ready with the compendium, so, for a much lower introductory fee, you get Dragon, Dungeon and the Conpendium. As a bonus are these free tools.
Then later they added the Character Builder. Then came back and said, look, we are really sorry, but we have to put the VTT on hold. We decided that what we need to do is focus on one tool at a time, because we just don't have the resources to do multiple tools. We did a survey, and lots of people that did the survey wanted tools to manage their campaign, so now we are going to focus on that. Again we are really sorry that we failed to bring everything we want. Again we are sorry.

As for playing with friends who live in different states, I never even mentioned that. Of course the VTT would be good for that. That's not what I was addressing.
And again, the VTT wouldn't have given you more time, it just means you are now dividing your attention between two things, kids and the game, both of which tend to require someones full attention.

As I and ranger76 have said before, once the kids are in bed we would not be dividing our time between them and the game. We would be free to game without interruption from the kids. But by then the LGS are well into their games. We never said the VTT would give us more time.
