Hmm, not much "news"...

If I had to write the column, I had shown off the highlights of Dragon 371 & Dungeon 162 (the January issues) instead of tell the readers what will be in the magazines this week (as we already know from their table of contents)

I really hope next year the magazines get back to where they started this summer with interesting articles and original content...

That assumes they have something worth highlighting for the next issues. On current showings, that could be questionable.

First thing for people working on providing new features should remember:

People hate change for the sake of change. They usually don't mind genuine improvements, but change just because it's change and therefore cool tends to get hackles raised.

Second thing for people working on providing new 'improved' features should remember:

It shouldn't be hard for users to figure out how to turn them off if they don't like them. Just because the programmer thinks he's had a great idea doesn't mean everyone else is going to agree with them.

At least they're still shooting for the end of Jan for all 30 levels. Hopefully the new year will bring us a bunch of new articles (rather than previews).

No kidding. On the other hand, there isn't much to report: the magazines were pretty thin, and there's no real news on the software front.

The funny thing is, they give the impression that the challenge to get the full version released is about getting the 30 levels implemented. I don't believe that's the case. I'm pretty sure: The software works fine already, for all levels, including all the data, perhaps with some minor bugs that haven't been found yet.
The reason for delay is: For some odd reason they have not implemented authorization for DDi subscribers and auto-update of new/fixed content right from the conception of the software. Now they are struggling to get the code in. And I'm a little alarmed that the "release date is not set in stone". Another point is, these 2 features have not been tested in public beta yet. Authorization and auto-update will work over the web. Many trapholes there.
Anyway, I just want the software as soon as possible please.

Well, my subscription expires on January 15th, and I have terminated autorenew. Once I see January's editorial calendar, I'll see if I want to buy in again for a long time, or if I'll just be paying for a month here or there. Be nice if they managed to pull in the schedule to a release in early January, but I have no expectations of same.

Every day the Character Builder is delayed means a loss of DDi subscribers.

Literally...I ended my subscription because I was tired of paying and waiting. The magazines alone weren't enough to keep my $8 a month...
