My only concern is that D&D insider and character creator will not have any features that include Player made classes. One of the things that was so great about 3E was the tremendous amount of player made content that was surprisingly balanced, and it would be incredibly sad to see that aspect of the game become neglected in the D&D insider. SO will classes and other user created content be able to be imported into the D&D insider character creator?

They've said that you'll be able to homebrew your characters - though if that means just changing the options withing 4E (IE - giving yourself a Feat at every level vs whatever system 4E uses) or going completely off the track and making custom stuff (like Feats, Classes, etc) remains to be seen.

It is also unclear how to keep the changes. There is a "checkmark" to allow homebrew, but if that is brought back to reset to the norm, it is unclear if the homebrew is wiped or just set aside. You can't use it while using the normal setting, so if a mistake is made...
Terms you should know... Spoiler:
Show
Kit Build - A class build that is self sustaining and has mechanical differences than the normal scale. Started in Essentials. Most are call their own terms, though the Base Class should be said in front of their own terms (Like Assassin/Executioner)
Power Points - A mechanic that was wedged into the PHB3 classes (with the exception of the Monk) from the previous editions. This time, they are used to augment At Wills to be Encounters, thus eliminating the need to choose powers past 4th level. Mage Builds - Kit builds that are schools of magic for the Wizard. A call back to the previous editions powering up of the wizard. (Wizard/Necromancer, for example) Unlike the previous kit builds, Wizards simply lose their Scribe Rituals feature and most likely still can choose powers from any build, unlike the Kit Builds.
Parcel System - A treasure distribution method that keeps adventurers poor while forcing/advising the DM to get wish lists from players. The version 2.0 rolls for treasure instead of making a list, and is incomplete because of the lack of clarity about magic item rarity.

They will Essentialize the Essentials classes, otherwise known as Essentials2.
The new sub-sub-classes will be:
* Magician. A subsubclass of Mage, the magician has two implements, wand and hat, one familiar (rabbit) and series of basic tricks. * Crook. A subsubclass of Thief, the Crook can only use a shiv, which allows him to use his only power... Shank. * Angry Vicar, a subsubclass of warpriest, the angry vicar has two attacks -- Shame and Lecture. * Hitter. A subsubclass of Slayer, the Hitter hits things. * Gatherer. A subsubclass of Hunter, it doesn't actually do anything, but pick up the stuff other players might leave behind.
Future Essentials2 classes include the Security Guard (Sentinel2), the Hexknife (Hexblade2), the Webelos (Scout2), the Gallant (Cavalier2) and the Goofus (Knight2).
These will all be detailed in the box set called Heroes of the Futile Marketing.
(Though what they should really release tomorrow is the Essentialized version of the Witchalok!)

Yeah, if it were a software application, I'd assume it would prompt you "do you want to reset non-standard choices?" but as its being described as a PDF with drop-downs. . . I dunno.
I suppose there could still be a macro that would prompt you. . .
I do like that checking the "homebrew" box adds a note stating that the sheet was "homebrewed" so that you know the sheet is non-standard, however.

Is the character visualizer available at all yet? Like, a test program or something just to see the kinds of things we can do with it before blindly subscribing for benefits we have never seen?

There was an option to sign up for the DDI beta at DDXP, but I haven't heard about anyone being tapped for that beta.
There was also word that there would be an open beta before launch.
Lastly, they said at DDXP that everyone will be able to take a 10-day trial of DDI's offerings for free.
So, while the software isn't available for testing yet (that I know of) you will get a chance to test it before you pay for it.

sorry I skipped the previous pages.
I would like a character sheet that was two sheets, front and back- one with gaming info and the other with RPing info
This is my :two cents:

few points that seem to have been forgotten in this thread
1. like many groups usually one or two people buy a book that we all use, can we all use the unique code to update our online e-book library or are we forced to buy one each?
2. Buying second hand books, again can the unique code be activated by the new owner?
3. Is the character creator just going to be flooded with *optional* extras that are going to keep raising the costs, because dnd has always been relatively cheap entertainment over the long run, its not looking so much that way now

1. This is the strategy - to 'encourage' more people to buy the books. I know that as the DM. I will probably still be the only one to buy the books in my group, although two might buy the PH to get access to DDI, pending our acceptance of the new rule system - which is already two additional sales that they wouldn't ordinarily have.
2. Very good point. Either the secondary market will be killed outright or they will have to allow for this. I'm not sure how they will make the latter work without opening it up for abuse. I can already see the amount of complaints about people's codes having been hijacked.
3. From what I understand, the application is subscription-based, so no matter how many extras they add on, the subscription fee will remain constant. I hope I'm right.
