Err that vacation, IIRC, was from the Boards not from work. After all his job description does not require him making a daily post. I seem to recall GZ saying Ken was "out of the office." This, however, could be anything from a vacation to avoid burnout to one scheduled almost a year ago to visiting a partner location, as I haven't seen anything verifying DDi is being developed wholly in-house.

Well seeing I often get error messages for no good reason, that indicates that search function is disabled I am not going to try. *wink*
Ken had indicated that he would be reading the first thread he started and posted that in the reply thread he started that he would be posting in a week or two to pages not replied to in first thread he did not get though so far.
As for GZ indicating Ken out of office I do not recall that one.
As for core design that indeed was outsourced, to Radiant (or something like that) though clearly WotC was running QA/QC oversight and wants the product to work with existing engine. At least that is my understanding.
Plans are always subject to change.

This thread is about how Ken Troop starts threads but doesn't actually respond to community questions or concerns. In response to our questions and concerns, you are starting a thread. It's strangely palindromic and somewhat frustrating. Agreed. Nuff said.

I was at Gen Con last year when they announced 4e and DDI. Aside from the comments about a new version, I also heard comments about etools. Many of us, myself included, did not get what we paid for there...Whether this was a WOTC issue or not, it's still tied to D&D and thus, a comparison issue for WOTC.
Start a communication plan your company is comfortable with and start sharing. Until that time, you'll begin losing folks who will never come back.
(And get some Program Management support ... might help the overall performance of projects on time & schedule. PS - I come from a company that does this for software programs, so we do know the challenges.)

No one's complaining about getting july 4th off. People were complaining about the 1-2 week long vacation Ken Troop apparently took according to someone or other. And folks wonder, somehow, why developers don't like posting on boards.

And folks wonder, somehow, why developers don't like posting on boards. Well Ken did come and say he would be more active and try his best to respond to the publics concerns. But then right after he posts that, he all of a sudden dissapears for 2 weeks without notice. This just adds to the frustration by the public and looks like WOTC is still not responding to our concerns and they are still not communcating better.
IMO Ken should have mentioned he was not going to be around for a couple of weeks or so. That way it would not have looked like he just posted here once to make us feel better for a day.

I think going from 0 posts to 1 made Ken "more active". Another post within the next 3 years will mean he is even more active.

Err he did mention he would disappear for a week or two, it is only the part of the third week that I considered a promise broken.

GAmerzero, since you kind of asked:
Your company needs to manage expectations better in general. There has been no news posted on the DDI news page since June 23. Even a "we are still working on things, the next item likely to launch is...." would be better than nothing. And, only communicating through the forums makes no sense. Your company should be doing interviews on ENWorld (even short ones) or posting news on the front page, or something. I don't know what your marketing/product people are saying, but if they don't believe in expectation management, you need to find new ones.
It's even worse to come here and set new expectations, and then disappear and not meet those. Consistent communication, consistent news, consistent effort to manage us is what you need.
