The core setting of D&D 4E is "Points of Light", of D&D 3E (and ancient Adventure Paths) is Greyhawk.

So my question was where the new Adventure Path does take place?

The answer is probably "Points of Light".... :D

*That's right, I called it "D&D" and not "4e." You got a problem with that? Well, tough. Sucks to be you.

I think Generika or D&D Land is apporpriate.

I have already posted my problems with the lack of key and the recycled key from Red Hand of Doom here: http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php? … stcount=10

I really enjoyed running through the first part of the adventure, the opening encounters were a lot of fun.

I found some problems with the layout. Here are some suggestions for improvement:

1) Bookmarks are definitely low-hanging fruit for pdf documents. Please use them. Hyperlinks are even cooler!

2) As a GM, I use the map to track the PC's prgress through dungeons and cities, etc. Yet, the encounters do not reference map locations; I had to go through the overview on pages 21-24 to cross-reference the map locations, then back to the map to see which other encounters were nearby, then look at the encounters, etc. I think that from now on it would make the map more useful if, on the same page as the "level" map it listed the encounter names and pages: for example:

ROOM ENCOUNTER Page

1 Chamber of Flame Unbound 25
2-3 Goblin Warren 26
etc.

In that way I could look at one "level" and know where the writeups were, and have a better idea of the "flow" of the encounters.

Anything that is not campaign specific is "somewhere" in the core "points of light" pseudo-setting.

Where exactly, is up to the DM. (Options include "nowhere".)

For those who Ran Red Hand of Doom, like my group... how are you handling the changes from then to now?
The biggest two, the appearance of Dragonborn and Tieflings all over the realm. I've ignored Tieflings and for Dragonborn, I have decided that they began appearing shortly after the end of the war, and that most people believe that they are the reincarnated souls of those killed in the war, on both sides. They remember nothing from their previous lives, but their souls are the same, so there are both good and evil Dragonborn. The lasting impression of Tiamats war is visible in the Dragonborn who walk the realm.

For Brindol...what did you do with Lord Jarmaath & co....the original Brindol was more of a king type, with Jarmaath as the ruler, now it seems to be a total committee rule...

I'm running RHoD right now. If we were running normal 3.5 instead of Pathfinder alpha, I'd've restricted options to those in 4e (with marshal replacing warlord). But since we're running the adventure with the normal crew from 3.5, I'll just explain the changes as something that happened during the ten years after the war. Dragonborn, eladrin and tieflings were there before, just not in noticable numbers.

I just wanted to put in my request for (a) a location for the Antler and Thistle, (b) a location for Rivenroar (you know, the place in the title of the module), and (c) an explanation for how a couple dozen hobgoblins, an ogre, and a wagon full of explosive monkey barrels got into town?

Absent updates, my guesses will be (a) just outside of town, (b) off in the hills somewhere, and (c) they don't.

looking at the Map of Brindol, I would suggest that the Antler and Thistle be located to the South Entrance to Town...outside the wall..

As a side Note..doesn't it appear that the Antler and thistle Change size on the Maps?

on the Detail Map and the Ogre Map it Looks Different?

From the Maps I would suggest that Catacombs and Ruins outside the Walls to the South...just strikes me as a Logical Direct.

If you place everything south of Town..as you said theres no reason to say that the Ogres and Attackers made it past Gate Guards into a wall city or as to why It takes so long for a city Patrol to arrive..just after the PCs save the day..

It does seem odd that, with Brindol and the Elsir Vale so richly detailed in the Red Hand of Doom, the authors of the Scales of War AP are not drawing more fully upon that fountain of goodness.

My first idea was that the authors intentionally left the details on all of the familiar people and places in Brindol blank to insure that any group could use the town without conflicting with what may have occurred when they played through the Red Hand of Doom. Depending on how things played out, some folks may have died, and some places may have been burned to ash. If things went really poorly, Brindol might have had to be completely rebuilt.

My new theory is that Brindol is not the main locale from which the adventure path will be staged. Perhaps the authors felt no need to devote time to detailing the people and places within Brindol because, after chapter one, the heroes won't be going back there.

Just today, i read this in the blurb for the latest issue of Dungeon:

"Dungeon Blurb"]This month, Dungeon dives headfirst back into the Scales of War Adventure Path with “ wrote:

This month, Dungeon dives headfirst back into the Scales of War Adventure Path with “The Siege of Bordrin’s Watch,” in which the PCs must race to the defense of the only western route into Elsir Vale before an orc horde overruns the entire region.

Bordrin's Watch, also not appearing on the map. Sigh. Yeah, I know, they just recycled the artwork from RHoD because it's cheaper that way, but still...
